Myself and my wife stayed 3 nights Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we were welcomed excellently well and given a guided tour and shown to our double en-suite room, The shower room and toilet were spotless. T.V.  tea, coffee making facilities with fridge containing fresh milk and bottled cold water. The owners Phil & Sam Harrison were a delightful couple, Phil briefed us on all the various local walks and had an excellent knowledge of the area. We will definitely return.

We had an amazing stay at Raise Cottage while passing through the Lake District on our way to Scotland.  The cottage is nestled high on a mountainside with beautiful views in three directions. Host Phillip is a retired police officer whose true passion is walking and photographing the surrounding mountains.  Phillip told us great stories and advised uswhere to hike during our brief stay in the area. His recommendations were spot on and we had an amazing time. The accommodations are not for everyone. It’s rustic throughout, but both the rooms and people are warm and auenthentic.  The hearty continental  breakfast was all homemade and delicious, although the dining environment might feel cramped when full (we were the sole guests during our stay). Those seeking pampered luxury should consider looking elsewhere. But those seekin a genuine mountain envionment with stories of the trail being shared around a warm fire, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you, Phillip, for the memorable and wonderful stay.

My partner and I had the pleasure of staying at Raise Cottage during our visit to the lakes. It is out of the way and surrounded by beautiful hills and overlooks the lake. It’s only a short drive to Grasmere however. The room we stayed in had a log burner and was clean and comfortable. Although we had access to the shared bathrooms they had clearly been recently refurbished and were spotless and we never had any problem accessing them. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable and gave advice and places to visit/eat. We will definitely return and highly recommended Raise Cottage.

Homely place with lovely comfortable room. Hosts were both helpful and attentive which leaves you wanting to return. The location is ideal too, especially when visiting lakes north south.
If you are looking for a great priced place to stay in the lakes then book early as you might be left disappointed if you leave it too late.

What a lovely location and a fabulous stay with great hosts. 
Being a solo traveler you often don't know what to expect in a small guesthouse. What I got was a beautiful,  comfortable room with a lovely view (see attached). Pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable hosts in Sam and Philip,  and a fabulous welcome from Millie the adorable 12 year old spaniel.
Breakfast tea choice was the best I've experienced (you have to try the spearmint and licorice -yum! ) cereal and muesli were available but I was happy with the freshly baked bread and butter. Lots of walks close by and views. ..well,  just stunning. Thank you so much for making my stay so great. When back in the UK I'll be sure to visit again. 

Raise Cottage was ideal for hiking and walking to explore the local area. You could quite easily leave your car in the layby outside the property all week. There are good bus links into Grasmere and Keswick/Penrith etc. The room was nice and clean and the bed was comfy. The 2 dogs were very friendly and we were left to come and go as we like. Overall it was a great break.

We were very happy with our stay at Raise Cottage. The room and shared bathroom were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple but delicious. Philip is a kind host. If you want to avoid the tourist traps in this area, then this is the place to be.

Other reviewers have mentioned a lack of customer service skills from the owner. We booked and then asked to cancel when we realised that the breakfast referred to on booking.com wasn't included, it made accommodation was quite expensive for room only and we had no real nearby options for breakfast. We received the below message from the owner, which I find quite rude and sarcastic. 'Please cancel then I would not want you to be disappointed. Try the Swan at £3383 includes breakfast, tweedies 333 and bridge house 520. Kind regards, Philip' - following a minor route revision - we have found a reasonably priced alternative.with a hopefully less sarcastic owner. Shame, as the setting does look lovely - but I think good customer service and communication are important.
