Stayed two days, and enjoyed an amazing walk in the local highlands. The place is healing by design; extra and unnecessary consumption is not included in the price, while available. A very friendly host, a decent view the moment the door is opened and privacy created by curtains in the barn. It was easy to rest in this space.

We Stayed here on Thursday the 19th of August. Found it by chance, it was so peaceful , had a great night sleep so comfortable. Jean was lovely breakfast was amazing she did a great spread. We got a bottle of wine and sat outside it was raining but we had our umbrellas with us. The room as a Microwave and a small fridge kettle and coffee tea etc the was also two cakes for us. Will definitely be back what lovely place to stay.

Had an absolutely fantastic stay at Barn-Gill House.  From the moment I arrived,  felt extremely welcome and at home.
My en-suite room was spotlessly clean, with tea and coffee facilities, a piece of delicious cake, tv, microwave and fridge.
The smell of breakfast cooking met me as I woke up, and what a treat it was.  Fruit, cereals, tea or coffee, toast, sweet breads and  relly yummy full cooked breakfast.
I would really recommend staying here, its beautiful a d very quiet.

Such a lovely place. Value for money! Lady that owned it was very welcoming and informative. Comfy beds, lovely powerful shower! Tasty full english in the morning that set me up for the day! Perfect for hiking up Helvelyn 

I stayed here 20th-24th May 2019 for a little solo getaway and I have to say this was a pleasant surprise. 

It's a nice quaint little place, my room had enough space, the bed was cosy and the view outside was lovely. The breakfast was spot on and there was plenty there to set you up for a day of walking.

If you're looking for peace and quiet and you're on a budget - look no further. It was £150 for 3 nights (prices may vary depending on the time you go, I assume) but for what you get and compared to other hotels in the area it's a bargain! It's not a very busy place so there isn't a lot of people around so it's perfect place to get away from it all.

The location is great, it's close to two beautiful lakes, Thirlmere and Derwent, and it's not too far from Windermere either. Keswick is about a 10 minute drive away which is a lovely little town with plenty of places to eat and a supermarket if you need anything. 

Jean was very accommodating and made me feel very welcome and was very polite. Would definitely go again.

What an amazing place this is to visit.  Jean is a most friendly and wecoming host.  You are made to feel like family!  Breakfast is like a banquet and its a chance for some conversation with your fellow guests.  The setting of the farm is wonderful with a waterfall hiding in the background. Added to that good qualty meals can be sourced at the nearby pub.  Thank you Jean and your husband.  I would love to make a repeat visit in the future.

Had a lovely stay in Barn Gill house for 1 night. Jean was the perfect host, the accommodation was cosy and homely. The breakfast was great. There is already fruit for you to eat on your table so if you're allergic or don't want any it may be advisable to mention. Breakfast is ordered the day before. I just had full breakfast. Gorgeous! x pastries available and all the usual cereals too. 
Cash only though.... so remember cash!  
I will return when wanting to stay in thst area. I walked to the Kings head 0.5 miles away. Interesting walk back in the dark, take a torch but amazing food there 👍🏼

Very traditional B & B, with a lovely host . The rooms have everything you could possibly want or need, including a fridge .  If you’re expecting corporate impersonal rooms do not book here ,this is not that type of place . Good location 10 mins drive from Keswick.
Exceptional value, very pleasant stay , very comfy beds .

What a delight..

It was a last minute booking by my husband for a few days. He said he had read the reviews and they were great. You can imagine my surprise then when we arrived to a frosty reception by our host until she realised we were the guests. We were firstly shown the breakfast room which had one table only so all guests were asked to sit together. Ok nothing major just different? We were then informed that breakfast was 8.30. Yes you read it right 8.30 no between times just 8.30! We were then showed to our room which was clean but exceptionally dated with the smallest television I have ever seen in a B&B/Hotel. 
We arrived for breakfast at 8.30 as told there was already fruit cocktail left at your place along with a glass of apple juice. No choice just apple juice and no jug to refill if you wanted. Breakfast had already been cooked and left warming whilst I appreciate some things can be pre cooked this is a small B&B and I like my eggs at least cooked fresh not left waiting for me. You were given toast no choice of white or brown along with orange marmalade no other choice or selection of jams. I visit the lakes regular and this wa a good location however I won’t be going back again. Just these little things could have made a huge difference.

Different to the many reviews!

I was looking forward to relaxing, and feeling pampered but it didn't happen here. On a positive I had a double bed, which is a bonus for a solo traveller, but nearly-finished bottles of supermarket shower gels and cleaning products out on display in the bathroom didn't create that pampered vibe. The buzzing fridge with microwave on top next to the bed also didn't create a relaxed environment either, and I ended up turning the fridge off. 

The decor is very dated, with various colours and patterns, again not really creating that relaxed vibe I was hoping for.  

Breakfast is served at 8.30am, which is ok, but there was no discussion about what was on offer or choice of say, how you might like your eggs.  I sat down to see a bowl of fruit salad, which I didn't really fancy, and politely declined, and  a glass of apple juice. Toast was white...all ok, but no choice. 

The view out of the room is straight onto the side of a mountain - personal preference as to whether you find that beautiful or oppressive. 

I'm afraid to say I left early.  There were various factors at play, but the room was a major part of the decision. 

I agree with the review left in 2018, and if I had seen any photos I would have chosen alternative accommodation as this was not my style at all. 

Decor and personal styles can vary a lot, but the little touches make all the difference.
