Just had a Christmas dinner which was beautiful! 
Portion sizes plentiful and the food was lovely & hot. 
Quick service and attentive, friendly staff.
Good Old fashioned pub with no TV blaring out! 
Would definitely recommend to anyone.

My mum and I were up in the area to see family, we had a lovely walk the next day. And we came across this lovely pub. Wasn’t originally eating, but changed our minds when we saw the menu and also how reasonable it was. The man presumably the owner was very nice as was all of the other staff. Would definetely visit again if we were in the area. Thanks again

Outstanding homely food, generous portions, with attentive staff.   There were 11 of us and our orders were well managed. Would recommend.

The olde worlde feel of the pub is charming. 

Frankly, I cannot understand how this pub is rated under 4 out of 5.

Four softie southerners on a canal boat. Not me, I'm a Yorkshire Lad. No, these were posh people from Surrey, friends of ours from down south from way back.

I'd persuaded them to come up to Yorkshire for their "Holibobs"and so they did...

Now they didn't think much to the Ocean, the waves were all piddly and small, but they did love as I loved, yon White Lion, which really should have been called Albert. Anyway, I'm waffling so lets get down to this review.

Run by a proper landlord, who said hello and clearly loved his food - his admission, not my observation. Unpretentious surroundings, friendly locals and a menu which is one I wish my home village pub in North Yorkshire would adopt! Another story. 

The food was right on the money. Me and t'wife elected for Whitby Scampi and Garden peas, rather than Yorkshire Caviar!  Ask if you're not sure.  Well cooked and reasonably priced. Very good.

Softie southerners had Steak, Posh Pie and Pasta and they all loved it.

As we bid our farewells as they headed off "put putting" along to the foothills of Gargrave, I vowed to return to the White Lion, with wife when could sample again this top quality fayre.

Not bad lad, not bad - Yorkshire for Bxxxxy Brilliant.

My husband and I came here for a well deserved meal out which is unusual due to children.
The food was out of this world amazing!! Great portion sizes and really tasty. 
Menu had a good range to choose from.
Prices just what you would expect for great food.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

The White Lion was recommended by friends. Early evening meal enjoyed with a friend. Service excellent with attentive and professional staff. The guy running the show is friendly and welcoming. Very good standard pub fayre with ample portions and cooked well. Very pleasant experience. Will be returning, very pleased this place has reopened and they care about the customer experience. 

Moored up on the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Kildwick, had lots of meals in the White Lion whilst staying there, apart from the amazing food and large portions, the staff were amazing, a special thank you to Kirsty,Alice, Lily and Chloe, and not to forget Alistair and his father Donald who were fantastic hosts.

Fabulous evening…great service, great food, will definitely be back.  Couples evening, girls had posh pie, chaps had duck, all agreed that quality of food was excellent & service was spot on…friendly, and efficient.  Will definitely be back soon, thank you Alistair & team

Myself and my husband visited The White Lion this evening for dinner as we were keen to try it following its reopening this week. 

The food was delicious, great quality and well cooked. They offered a good range of gluten free options, important for us as my husband has coeliac disease. 

The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub had a busy, welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and would recommend it!

Excellent food, value for money, and lovely staff

Proper Pub Grub Tha Knows - even if't Landlord spent time in Surrey Years ago!

3 of our party ordered sandwiches, which were huge! The panini were stuffed full of filling, and served with a small bowl of potato skins! My baked camembert was very nice, but only served with 3 small slices of melba toast, so I had to ask for more. Prices were very reasonable.
All in all, a very pleasant experience

Staff - professional, helpful and nice to see the landlord and landlady in the bar too. 

Menu - good choice and very good prices

Food - lots! We had the Gammon and it was amazing - also get egg AND pineapple with it, which is normally a choice of either in most places! Highly recommend.

Place in general - very clean, toilets very clean. Cosy atmosphere and warm.

Fabulous Food

It was a Friday evening, dark & damp, after a 6 hour journey from Kent when we arrived at the White Lion. We had been warned it was "Builders Night"and so it was; the Inn was full to brimming with the Lads and a few Lasses enjoying the start of their Christmas break! I left my Wife and dog Billy in the car as I took our overnight bags to check in, despite being so full people were good and I was soon at the bar to be welcomed by a nice young Lady get the keys and be shown up to our room above. When I fetched Jane, who is getting over a badly broken leg, plus Billy, people were so kind and made way for them with nice words and greetings. Our room was so clean and comfortable with all the facilities we would need and despite the crowd in the bar below was amazingly peaceful. My phone rang and our friends has just arrived in the bar below so down we went to greet them. Our Host had found us a nice table in the corner for our meal and a few drinks and despite all the folk filling the bar we did not feel hemmed in and we soon had our drink arrive and menu to make our choices.Lads came over to talk to us and fuss Billy who really enjoyed the attention; what a friendly place to be!
Well I can tell you this Inn keeps it's beers in tip top condition and a pint of Goose Eye was perfection! The menu choice was quite varied but three of us chose to have a steak and Jane the salmon in hollandaise sauce. The food was excellent, it was clear the steak was perfectly grilled to our choice, tender and full of flavour and I fully believe it comes from a local butcher who knows how to hang his beef and sources it locally! The fries were perfect, big Yorkshire ones along with mushrooms, tomatoes and battered onion rings, again you can tell a lot from the taste and quality of the tomatoes at this time of year and these were great! Jane had a lovely piece of salmon in a nice sauce with a tureen of mixed vegetables and was equally as delicious as our steaks. We followed that very filling main course with a good selection of desserts and caffetieres of freshly brewed coffee with brandies and a Baileys for Jane.
You will be hard pressed to find a more welcoming old Inn, friendly natives and good service than the White Lion and such good value for money too! Well done Timothy Taylors Brewery chain, you have a star in this lovely old Inn, such character and after a really comfortable night and an outstanding full Yorkshire Breakfast with superb black pudding served by our host, Dave we set off on our journey up to Northumberland. If you are a dog owner or just those who love this picturesque part of Yorkshire then you will love the White Lion at Kildwick!
