A friend of my son’s and I stayed at the Braeside Guest Rooms in Portree and had 2 nights whilst exploring Skye.
We had a really nice room upstairs and it was comfortable lovely and clean and a decent en-suite too.
Ruth the owner was  just so lovely and she was so welcoming - makes all the difference.
The guest rooms were right in the middle of Portree so it was a minutes walk to shops and other amenities.
I would definitely recommend here as it was reasonably priced too

Pretty Guest Rooms in the centre of Portree

I loved staying here for 4 nights.  The host could not have been more welcoming and kind.  The room was warm, cozy and very comfortable and the bathroom was newly refinished and stylish.  It is just around the corner from the Food Co-op, which made getting supplies very easy, and there are many restaurants nearby.  Somerled Square is very close for buses and tours to get around the island.  The guesthouse itself is in a quiet area.  One of the local hostels also has laundry facilities, which is very handy for people on longer trips.   The Scorrybreac Trail is nearby, and if you need gym facilities, there is one within walking distance that has limited hours (shared with the local high school).   

This is where to stay in Portree

The owner was not very friendly. When I asked her about the breakfast, she said she was going to send her email back for me to read, instead of talking to us. On four occasions she told us to put the key in the box when we left. In other guesthouses there is a bell for contact. Here nothing. No breakfast. Very very narrow staircase (dangerous, with the carpet). Room in the attic badly decorated - old paper on the walls. Difficult to heat, little light (energy saving bulb). After the first night (we stayed 2 nights), all our stuff had been moved - my suitcase was packed in a messy way with all the stuff mixed up. Tiny bathroom, no heating, no shampoo or conditioner like in other guest houses - tea and coffee available but biscuits are not free. There are prohibitions EVERYWHERE (in the staircase, in the bathroom to wash only your hands in the sink!, for the toilet etc...). To be avoided

Nice touch of snacks for the morning & tea making facilities. 

Great location, pub near by & a co-op a stones throw. 
Would stay again if back in Isle of Skye

Great central guesthouse

Don't stay here unless you are desperite, and still don't. This was the last accomodation available in Portree. When we arrive we realised why. The place was locked up, tried ringing the property twice no reply. We would normally only take with us the address, phone no and confirmation No of the booking. Fortunatly on this occasion my wife had taken a copy of the email that we had received prior to leaving home. In that email we managed to find a mobile No. Managed to get in touch with the propiritor who was away in Inverness. She said that she had sent us an email with instructions of how to get in the day before, but we had already been away for 3 days by then. I saw the email when we got home and it said at the bottom, reply to this email so that I know that you have received it. Of course we did not reply so why had she not phoned us to tell us how to get in. This property is basically a small fishermans cottage, which is fine but our room was built into the attic, so if you were anywhere near of being average height you were in server danger of banging your head on the eves when moving around the room or using the toilet. The shower cubicle is tiny so the same thing applies is you are even approaching average build it is impossible not to bang your elbows, and if you wish to wash your lower legs, forget it unless you want  to bank your head or your backside. The sink has a crack in it, the shower power unit has 2 cracks in it, which I think is possible dangerous. The stairs were in my view dangerous, one of the other guests remarked that she did not know how the property had managed to get approval with those stairs. No house keeping, alegedly because of covid but that did not apply at our stay in Oban for a few days prior to going to Skye. Now that covid is just about finished what excuses are places like this going to use? Why do places like this think that it is acceptable to charge a lot of money for infirior vaccilities that most people would not put up with at home?

Don't stay here

Like a previous reviewer, we had a terrible experience with the host, who was abrupt and rude from the point of check-in (“what do you want?” “to check in…?”), then got increasingly hostile as I was confused about the room we had booked (we normally book doubles but this was a twin - my confusion, as we had tried to book a double but the booking site didn’t let us for this place), and when she told us a plumber would be coming into our room the next morning and we asked what time, she got outright pissed off (“it’s near impossible to get a plumber on this island, and the bathroom needs to have a plumber look at it!”). She kept accusing us of being unhappy and not wanting to stay there and it honestly felt like she was trying to find a reason to kick us out. We apologized for the confusion on the room and tried to reassure her we understood that getting a plumber is difficult, we were just hoping to have any guidance on when to expect someone coming into our room, but she wouldn’t have any of it, she just kept getting more and more hostile. Finally she left, slamming the door on her way out. 

The room itself was okay. Small, dark, a bit dingy, very poor noise isolation from other rooms. We were lucky the neighbors were quiet but I worried about using the hair dryer and talking even at normal volume because I didn’t want to disturb them either. 

We tried to spend as little time in our room as possible. Not an ideal situation as there are indeed restaurants and bars nearby but everything was totally booked and without prior reservations we couldn’t get in anywhere. 

Very unpleasant experience all in all.

Very hostile host, accommodations okay

We travelled as a couple to tour Portree for two nights. We stayed at Braeside Guest Rooms. On arrival it was very apparent that the owner smokes and this was penetrating throughout the accommodation. I suffer with asthma and was up several times for my inhalers, which I wouldn’t usually take. To mask the smell of smoke, the owner burnt insense sticks, which together with the smell of smoke did not leave a good aroma throughout. We never seen the owner after checking in and was told to post the key through the door when leaving.

Honest review - smoking

We booked for 2 nights in February and the money was taken straight away. Breakfast was cancelled because of COVID - ok - but no reduction was offered. Very tired room and our view was of next door's back wall.

Least said soonest mended

This lovely house is in the middle of beautiful Portree, in the Isle of Skye. The room and bathroom were very spacious, and very nicely decorated, everything was spotless, Ruth made us feel very welcomed in her house. Highly recommended!

Lovely room, centre town

Right in the center of Portree - 5 min walk from the busstation. Cozy room with daily service. Friendly host with great flexibility. Since we had to leave early on departure-day, Ruth made us a nice breakfast to-go.
