The Barrington Boar

I decided to make a last minute booking in lovely Somerset and was lucky enough to have found a vacancy over the bank holiday weekend at the Barrington Boat in the beautiful village of Barrington. The room was one of four overlooking the beautifully landscaped garden of the restaurant . Compact yet perfectly proportioned and immaculately cleaned the room was well furnished , came with a good sized satellite tv , great Nespresso coffee machine and fresh milk . The bed was large , wonderfully comfortable with good quality furnishings and pillows (plus spare if needed!) The bathroom was of a good size , powerful shower and quality bath products … needless to say we slept well ! The food , however the was something else . We are fortunate enough to have eaten in some wonderful restaurants and this competes / exceeds the experience of the best of them . The quality of the ingredients , presentation and preparation by Alasdair and the kitchen was superb. My wife and I both had the fillet steak for our main course (Saturday evening meal) which at £38 we did not feel was overpriced . We also both enjoyed a traditional Sunday roast the following day which did not disappoint and both commented that it was the best we’d had . Breakfast was provided with ample choice and the quality of ingredients followed . Drinks were reasonable with ample choice and the service provided by Victoria and the front of house staff was efficient , friendly yet not overbearing . We had a fantastic weekend and will definitely return. P&H Taylor
