This an old traditional hotel with parking nearby. The food is ok and the staff friendly and it certainly has an atmosphere . It is a 3 star with charm rather than a modern 3 star that could be anywhere 

Its Different having its own charm

A super cozy dormitory, but on weekends you don't sleep in the ones on the street, although the rest is super comfortable and in the pub the best drinks and a great selection of the best beers in the UK.

I hope to repeat it.

Comfortable bar with excellent staff. Very good prices too! Probably the best in town for value. Good selection of beers, both bottled and draft. 
Always service with a smile. 
And there’s always some memorable regulars to chat to. 

Great bar

As a local resident who has frequented this hotel and bar for many decades  it is sad to see it in its  current state. Today was no exception when I decided to drop in for a few drinks prior to walking home with my 3 dogs. Instead of a warm Xmas welcome I was greeted with  hostile questions about my dogs behaviour and to keep them on their leads. It is no surprise that this place is always close to empty with this sort of welcome. I would definitely recommend  the other nearby bars which are much more pleasant and less hostile. A crying shame as this is an excellent bar area and used to be one of the busiest bars in the town. 

Hostile welcome and poor customer service 

Stayed for a weekend, booked Angel as an easy option in the town centre, but severe lack of parking, the rooms are tired/dated but was clean, breakfast was very average a bit under cooked if anything, the staff helpful and polite on arrival as a plus

Easy option

We didn't stay at the Angel, thankfully. We went in for an evening meal as the intriguingly ancient Blue Anchor pub down the street doesn't offer food.
The Angel lounge is a journey back in time to the 1970s but so what - we were hungry. The menu was limited, so we both chose cod loin with rice, steamed veg, and homemade tomato sauce. Sounded like it could have been nice and Mediterranean. It was neither: the fish was massively overcooked and grey, peas, carrots and green beans dry and flavourless, and the plate was piled high with rice - again, dry. The homemade tomato sauce was a tiny pot of ketchup, to share. We both agreed this to be the worst plate of food we had ever been offered. Seriously, ever. Including school dinners. The one star is purely for the fact that the lady behind the bar was friendly but God, do they need a decent cook.

Truly dreadful food

Arriving to this hotel was the easy part.
Situated on the main street of Helston town.
The 16th century building is in between charity shops and other local eating houses and array of Banks and Salons.
This Hotel also as a pub which is also used by the locals. We did not use this area so can not give an opinion.
There is parking available at the back of the hotel which is limited however its not signed to show where you should go unless your told. This is also monitored.
The hotel itself looks fairly pleasant but is confusing to a new traveller.
Not sure where reception is or was as we just walked into the bar which is when i was told about the parking.
This was down the side of an alley which had no lighting and backed onto residential homes.Again told to come in through the back but again no signage or lighting even worst once through the door we chose to use as again no pointers to guide us to the correct place. All done by trial and error. Not good being a lone female.
Room was clean and the bed was warm and comfortable.
Hotel says free wifi however not once did we manage to receive a signal for this.
The noise within the hotel was zero very quite.
However this is a 16th century house and having strong winds blowing outside expect the windows to howl and rattle.
Room was ample for myself single bed en-suite with shower.
Lovely white towels and sheets were crisp.
Did not watch the tv but it was a very small 15' tv.
The hotel all in all is ideal for a quick stay and is quite central for visiting The Lizard, Falmouth, Hayle, Redruth.
Two large supermarket chains Tesco and Sainsburys in walking distance.
Great place to stay on Flora day which is on or around the 4th May.
Breakfast wasnt taken but could be added also evening meals available however this hotel also has alot of other places to eat around also in walking distance.
Nice over night warm comfortable stay.



Overnight Stay

We close this hotel as according to their website It offered dining 7 nights a week, a welcoming fire in the lounge, and updated accommodation.

In reality it offered none of the above, and alarm bells should have rung when we asked to pay the full balance on arrival.

No evening meals were in fact available at the weekends, we arrived on a Saturday.

No fire in the lounge as it wasn't cold enough, although it was November.

What was in the lounge was an elderly bearded man who used f*** or  f***Ing in every sentence, a child eating a takeaway pizza, and loud music which at least helped to drown out the foul mouthed man at the bar. This was the most unwelcoming bar I can remember entering.

One of our group wanted a continental style breakfast which she was informed wasn't possible as their guests only wanted a full English. 

The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable, but had not been updated this decade, the small window opened onto a narrow alleyway, so you could hear more foul mouthed revellers returning home in the small hours.

There was only one high point, the freshly cooked breakfast provided by Viv and her husband. They also helped to provide a Continental breakfast for one of our party.

This is a truly awful place and would have received 1 star had it not been for the breakfast. Not cheap either, save your money and stay at a Premier Inn for half the cost.

Misleading website - avoid

Walking into the Angel is like walking back in time. The decor, furniture and ambiance are all reminiscent of the 1950s and the place is in dire need of complete modernisation. However, it has a lot going for it. We were able to get reasonably priced availability at short notice in the middle of August. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the breakfast was good. There was no shortage of hot water and the staff were all polite and helpful. The location couldn't be better right in the middle of the high street, and free off street parking is a real advantage. We would happily return.

I liked it.

My wife and I arrived at Helston's as part of our Cornwall tour around noon. We also went to the largest pub in the world, which was on the first floor and then had nothing to do with the reception. We also went to the 'Tourist Information' to get help in finding accommodation. The nice old gentleman there also gave us a list of possible accommodations. Right after our first visit we should have apparently had success. It was the 'Angel Hotel'.
