The Crown Country Inn

We called into the Crown which was around 5 minutes away from our stay for the night.
It is an authentic village pub with an open fire and plenty of character.
I partook in some fine San Miguel and both myself and partner were made to feel very welcome by Cath. We had a lovely evening and some excellent converation with Cath who is a credit to the establishment. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and left all the better for the experience so if you are stopping anywhere nearby or you are just psssing through I can highly reccomend the Crown.

We stayed here for two nights. The pub is lovely, olde worlde, with beams etc. The landlord couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful, letting me put my motorbike in the back for safekeeping. The bedroom was fantastic. The bed wonderful, I slept like a baby. The first night we both had steak which melted in your mouth, the second night I had chicken curry my wife had Cumberland sausage. Both nice but we wished we had had the steaks again.

We came in for lunch with a party of 10 plus dogs and small baby.
Staff couldn't be more helpful if tried. 
Great beer which is well kept and food was superb all home cooked and tasty. 
We will be back.

Beautiful and convenient setting

Great Pub

Stayed locally and this place was recommended. First visit, food satisfactory, but service left something to be desired. Girl seemed reluctant to accept payment, and kept on talking to men at bar, so walked out and stood on step, before one of the locals who were drinking at bar came out and apologised for lack of attention!  Second visit, told by surly older woman behind bar restaurant was not open but we could have a meal in the bar area. Food acceptable, but staff again not a bit interested in customers. Advise is, avoid this place, there are much better places nearby.

Very poor attitude to customers

So disappointing on many different levels. The pictures and comments on the website where we booked it are very misleading. Be cautious when looking at this. It is expensive, both for the accommodation and to eat there (another guest confided in me that she felt this way also) and it is generally in need of a really good deep clean and refurb. We arrived to an empty pub, which was also very cold, so much so that we had to ask for the hearing to be switched on! The tables are very old with dirty cushions placed on them. There is a funny odour at the bottom of one of the staircases and I can only think that the carpet is old and needs replacing. Another guest claimed that the bed in theory room must be 20 years old and was not comfortable! It is a dingy, depressing little place and needs some TLC and someone to invest some time and money into improving things - considering it is over priced and they are happy to take your money. Toilet in our room would not flush, and the window is smashed. No remote control for the TV. The staff are friendly and are trying their best, but with the best will in the world, it’s not enough. I have come away with the opinion that whoever owns it is either too tight or greedy to spend some cash on it but is happy to charge top prices. We came home a day early. Quite sad as it was for my mums birthday.

Avoid

We arrived at 7.45pm and asked for food menu. The woman behind the bar said she would have to check if they could serve food as they were so busy with a group booking. This was blatantly untrue as the place was empty and it stated at the bar that they finished serving food at 8.30pm.

She returned after 30 seconds to say she couldn’t accommodate us. I asked if perhaps she could manage some soup or a sandwich but was told no very abruptly.

Her manner was so rude plus she had very greasy hair and kept coughing without covering her mouth - so in hindsight it may be a blessing we couldn’t be served!!!

The only other 2 people in the bar followed us outside and apologised about how rude the woman had been and gave several other nearby pubs to try.
