Gordon Old School B & B

Ross and Annie are very welcoming and attentive to guests' needs.  The facilities are ultra clean and comfortable.  Having only two rooms plus a common sitting area makes this a cozy B&B.  The cooked to order breakfasts are high quality and top notch. The bath amenities are first rate (good towels and soaps) and the shower itself is the best I've used in Scotland!  It's an excellent base for exploring the Borders and coming back to a peaceful, quiet location for rest.  I'd return any time I'm in the area!

My husband and I booked a one night stay here for our trip up to the Scottish Borders based on other reviews and we were not disappointed! The property is a converted former schoolhouse and tucked away near the local church in Gordon. Ross and Annie extended a warm welcome as we arrived on a rather grey and chilly day, cheering us with a large pot of tea and several slices of a delicious cake that had just been baked. The accommodation was immaculate and pristine! Our cosy double room was light and airy and the power shower in the gleaming ensuite so powerful it almost knocked me off my feet! (slight exaggeration!). Even the mugs on the hospitality tray  were colour-coordinated with the lovely absorbent flannels, hand and bath towels! The double bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of wardrobe space. We had sole use of the adjoining guest lounge (which doubles as the breakfast room) being the only guests (there are only two guest rooms). This was well equipped with books, local OS maps and board games, and Annie and Ross were only too happy to help with local info and any queries. We had a choice of breakfast times and were served a full and hearty cooked breakfast (using locally-sourced ingredients) with a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, toast and jams, tea or coffee - sufficient to sustain us throughout the day! There was plenty of free parking outside and free WiFi. There is a large garden to the rear of the property for guests' use, although the weather was not really conducive to this during our brief stay! We felt the accommodation represented excellent value and will most definitely return!

I chose this B&B as it is all on the level and my father isn't great on the stairs anymore.  

We arrived and were welcomed by Ross.  The rooms are very pleasant - we had the double room and my dad was in the twin room.  There is also a lounge / dining room which is available just for guests.

We were keen to go and get some dinner as it already heading for 7pm.  Annie kindly rang Cafe Obrigado (5 min walk away) to check that they were still serving food. (see separate review).

We were asked to indicate our breakfast choices on a sheet before we retired at night - Not a problem, if it helps Ross and Annie out.

Our rooms were well furnished and there was plenty of tea and coffee with a flask of fresh milk for drinks.  The beds were comfy with nice duvets - it was a pleasant nights sleep. The en-suite bathroom had a great and powerful shower - only downside for me was the water went a bit lukewarm.  Nice Scottish made toiletries in the bathroom as well. My dad couldn't see the shaver point in the bathroom, but Annie helpfully provided an adaptor for him to use.

Our breakfast was cooked to our liking, and they found me some decaff coffee (well done - there are bigger hotels who've disappointed me there).

A good one night stay - definitely was a good choice for us as a place to break the journey onward to the Highlands.  Annie and Ross would like to see visitors stay for 2 or more nights - there is plenty to do in the Borders as well!
