496 reviewsDon’t know what people are moaning about. It’s classic Scottish architecture at its best. Location: 15 min walk from bus station. 5 mins round corner to theatre, 20min walk to Christmas markets/ princess street. It’s cheap at a £100 for a night in December is amazing. Especially in Edinburgh, in December, when the markets are on. We only needed a bed 9.30pm-8am, travelling home north Scotland from Lapland. Staff: The petite lady who answered the door was friendly enough. Professional. She Told me all I needed about keys and breakfast being n delivered. Handed me a long list which I didn’t look at as I was absolutely shattered from travelling. I’d emailed a long time ago, explaining about having a heavy case, asking for a low floor room please. This wasn’t accommodated, BUT a male staff member (or owner unsure) came and took our very heavy case up to 3rd floor for us. Without issue. I was very pleased & thanked him profusely. 👌 The building & room: this is a very old beautiful Scottish building in a beautiful street. We were in room 12 with beautiful views across the city. Double and single bed, all very clean and a great nights sleep had. Kettle and coffee tea in room too, Plenty space. Bathroom was clean and had soap for washing with. The shower water flow was pathetic but not a disaster just took longer to get the soap off. No this is not ultra modern Moxy/ Hilton hotel standards!! Simply don’t book this if you don’t want to see old fashioned fixings & furnishings and beautiful stair cases. The breakfast is very strange. Choose what you want leave list on table down stairs and it’s delivered before midnight hung on your door. Pre packed items all very nice. No complaint about the content. HOWEVER: it didn’t work for us, I had an 8 year old looking to eat his cereal at 7.30am. There are No bowls or spoons on the room. 😟 I wasn’t hauling myself down 3 flights of stairs in my pjs to get a bowl and spoon so he could eat while I showered. Lol Nor is he old enough to allow him downstairs himself to eat. :-( The alternative is you organise self and take bag back down stairs to dining room to eat. It’s bonkers. Would make more sense if you bag these up, put room numbers on bag & leave in dining room for guests to collect themselves in morning and collect crockery and cutlery too. Then choose where they wish to eat: take all back up to room or stay down stairs.. As If I had been made aware there would be no cutlery or crockery coming with breakfast of cereal and milk for morning, we would have woke earlier, with the knowledge that we needed to go down for breakfast. Stupidly I assumed a bowl and spoon would come with cereal & milk because how else was he to eat it?😂 So my apologise for leaving the milk and cereal in the room it was of no use to us on a bus travelling 4 hours north. 😂 All in all a good stay. Would recommend and would stay again if need arose. Thanks a million 👍
