I was given an upgrade on arrival from a single with bathroom to a double with bathroom. 

On arrival Due to lack of parking at my business destination and it being within walking distance I asked and was permitted to leave my car parked in one of the hotels parking slots till 12:30 later on the following day when  I returned from my meeting. 

My room was Clean and fine except I had no control over heating. I arrived about 16:00 and by the time I had been to dinner and come back about 19:30 the bedroom at least was getting warm. The en-suite was a different story. the small radiator made no difference to the temperature and it was cold to the point you did not want to spend any time in there. It was reminiscent of my grandparents outside privy when I was a child. The tiled floor was an unpleasant shock to naked feet. I looked at the size of the towel and it did not bode well for my morning shower. 
The heating must have gone off about 23:00 as my radiator offered no more warmth after that. The room being of such proportions that I could easily reach it from my bed to test. I normally sleep in just underwear not a t shirt and jumper that I resorted too. The room had no additional bedding so the duvet was it. I did not sleep well. 

At 06:30 the room had a little warmth. My morning shower was fast so as to spend as little time in the frigid bathroom. The electric shower did its best to provide constant hot water but pressure fluctuations resulted in it turning cold for safety a couple of times. My shower was a practical not pleasurable affair. My single towel was barely adequate. And to dry off I retreated to the bedroom. 

My breakfast orange juice. Tea. Fried Egg, two rashers, sausage, toast, beans. Was ok. But no mushrooms or tomatoes. I passed on the cereal. Left the beans and was underwhelmed by the sausage.  I understand the price of the room is reflected in the breakfast. 

I was not asked how I slept and had to broach the subject myself. I was told the heating went off at 23:00 and on at 05:00 and had I texted my problem it would have been looked into. The hotel did promise to consider my feedback. I noted that on the back of the bedroom door an emergency contact number had been added. to me a cold room did not constitute an emergency.

Anyway I hope those that follow have a better experience than I. I won’t be returning.

Minus four outside not much warmer inside

we had a great long stay in this hotel on London Road, Alvaston,  Derby.  The owners are welcoming and warm with generous hospitality.
The rooms are pleasant, restful and comfortable. Excellent location for eating out  with a brilliant bus route.  Also a park with a lake and cafe, great to stroll around in.
 

Splendid stay In the Maryland B&B

Really special accommodation, on the London Road, Alvaston, Derby.  
Sandie and I stayed here recently for 2 nights, and can honestly say we were totally impressed with everything about our stay here.  The room provided was very modern and clean, opening out onto a beautifully manicured deck and garden.  The host, Sharon, was very charming and friendly, and looked after our dietary needs with superb breakfasts each morning.  Free car parking was available.  Derby City centre is just a pleasant 20 minute walk alongside the River Derwent.  

Amazing B&B

We stayed here for 1 night when attending an event in Derby city centre. This hotel was 50 minute walk to the centre but 5 minute drive. 

It is situated on the main road and we missed it at first so keep your eyes out!

When we got inside we were pleased, the place looked very clean and modern.

The lady who runs it was very nice and looked after us well, we were shown to our room and everything was explained clearly, which keys to use for what etc. We were given phone numbers to local taxi firms and give the WiFi code. WiFi was good in the room

On entering the room we noticed it was clean, with up to date decor. The bed was comfortable.

Outside there is a well kept garden and decking with table, chairs and sun loungers which are available for use.

For breakfast we were asked what time we would like it, we chose 8am which is the earliest time.  The area was well kept, clean with a television. There was a coffee machine and you could ask for a tea. There is cereal on the side and we were offered a full English too and there was also a vegetarian breakfast, (vegetarian sausage). 

We booked via booking.com but you will get cheaper booking direct.

We wouldn't hesitate to stop here again if needed.

Lovely hotel

Maryland is a truly lovely B&B that until you visit, you cannot appreciate how much of a gem it is. My room was so comfortable with a double bed and spacious en-suite. It was immaculately clean with all the facilities you need. Sharon my host was helpful and friendly and her husband the chef cooked me a wonderful full English. The garden is a delight, the centrepiece being a cherry blossom tree in full bloom. Definitely my go to for any future visit to Derby.

GEM of a B&B

We found this hidden jewel while looking for an overnight stay for a wedding. I cannot express how impressed we were with both the accommodation & the lovely Sharon (Landlady). We were upgraded to a garden room on arrival as we were only guests on this particular night. The room was large, immaculatelyclean, beautifully furnished & decorated, with a wonderful view of the beautiful garden. The King size bed, with memory foam mattress, was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Breakfast (included in £59) was perfectly cooked, tasty, filling & well presented. This family owned & run hotel definitely deserves more than 3 stars. We will definitely visit again.o

The hidden Jewel in Derby

The staff are very understanding and accommodating. We had a little misunderstanding regarding Booking being paid in advance and reception expecting me to pay on arrival. We resolved this in a very mature way and realised that it was not the hotel's fault the problem arose. I paid them and true to their word, no further payment was taken from my account. The room I got was good enough to be 3 star and the general atmosphere was quiet and peaceful.
Although the hotel is well served by transport networks. Driving back from town at peak hours was very slow and frustrating. This is not the hotel's fault but something worth thinking about.

A decent stay in Derby

Sharon and her husband run thr B&B and provide an excellent service. From start to finish we were taken care of very well. We were 3 couples meeting up for the weekend to attend a friends 40th wedding anniversary. Sharon arranged to have our rooms close to each other, on of the rooms has double patio doors out onto thier beautiful decked area with hot tub and pergola. We were able to use this in the evening so the 6 of us could meet up for drinks and nibbles ( bought in the local tesco express). The other two bedrooms that were used also had a door/corridor leading out onto the deck which was perfect for us getting together without disturbing other residents.  On arrival we had tea in the garden , what a lovely space that is. Huge lawned area, with a large tree in the centre. 
Breakfast was cereal and full english included in the price which we felt was very reasonably. 

Excellent welcome and service

Phone booking, very friendly. When we checked in we were shown two rooms & given a choice, we chose the smaller room at the rear overlooking the garden. We needed an early start the next morning so missed breakfast but had it on the Sunday it was great. Room clean & met our needs. Host very helpful even offered to book a taxi for us. Extremely good value would stop here again highley recomended

Two night break Friday to Sunday.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay with my family as we had to stay somewhere at a last minute call. Maryland Hotel has got cosy rooms with all the required amenities and a very friendly staff. Thank you Sharon!
