Keynes College University of Kent Hostel

We had never thought of staying at a University during the Summer recess and so this advertised and gave it a go prior to travelling from Dover to Dunkirk. We were a little worried about the quality and the parking but everything was brilliant. Upon arrival, parking was a problem but once at reception, help and instructions were given and parking was close by and free - as it was a Saturday night. During weekdays you need a free parking permit from the reception. Weekends - this is not needed. Booking in was friendly and efficient. They even had free news papers! The room allocated, even though it was obviously in a student block, was quite a walk, but I was able to work out the car parking and move my car much nearer the room. The room was attractive, had a very comfortable double bed, was en suite, free wifi, tv coffee making facilities, free toiletries and was clean and tidy. There was a large common kitchen at each end of the block with cooker and microwave as well as table and chairs. I never had it so good when I was a student!!! We discovered a bus stop about a three minute walk from the room and got a bus into Canterbury bus station and had a tour round this lovely city during the evening and found a nice restaurant. The bus back leaves from the bus station and has Whitstable on the front. As we had eaten in Canterbury we did not try the restaurant but we did find the large bar, all close to the room. The place was reasonably busy as it appeared there were many courses going on and summer schools. Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choices and again busy, and as we found later, many of the people staying were from the continent and we met them on our ferry from Dover. The journey to Dover took us about 25 minutes and as an overnight stop for people travelling from the north to the continent this place is absolutely ideal. I have no hesitation in recommending it and we shall certainly use Keynes College Canterbury again.
