Totally perfect. Lovely place, plenty of character, very well placed for all of the sights. Bathroom to die for, super comfy bed. Parking very close and well priced. My only grumble was that I only booked two nights!! Thanks.

Top drawer!!

We stayed here for New Years Eve.

We had good communication from the owners re car parking which was straightforward to find and reasonable at £6 for 24 hours (cheaper than the equivalent in York!). 

The accomodation is two large ensuite rooms.  They're  created out of a period house near the theatre,cathedral and river.

Location is perfect for visiting the old part of Canterbury and enjoying the good selection of cafes and restaurants within an easy walk (see my separate reviews of Boho and Ambrette). 

The character Chaucer house is easily identified by the jester door knocker,and accessed by a secure pin code-no bulky keys to carry around! Lovely well furnished common areas.  

Large quirky shaped room with huge comfortable bed, lovely bed linen,and extra pillows available  in common area. 

With a few small tweaks this place could be great e.g.

-  Posh coffee machine needa replenished coffee supplies daily! 

- Quality large towels would complement the luxurious bathroom apropriately. 

- explanation about purpose of the webcam in the common areas- There was something that looked similar in the bathroom which seemed rather odd. 

Nevertheless all in all a reasonable base for a short winter stay.

Characterful & well located

We stayed here with our toddler for one night recently. The room and bathroom are lovely, but there is a distinct smell of mustiness, I think it is likely due to it being an older building and maybe carpet related?

The room itself was very comfortable, but I was woken at 1am by revellers outside and unable to get back to sleep for several hours. 

Despite this, it really is  in a fantastic location and if you can live with the above then I recommend it.

Fantastic location, but some shortfalls

This is definitely not a four star establishment. Besides the over done air freshener trying to cover up the musty smell and the cold room in February and the fact that the house rattled uncontrollably..... there is the rude owner who argued with me when I asked for fresh towels daily (Martin said towels are only replaced every three days. Which would have been ok if more than two sets of towels were provided for two people) add to this that the room was chilly and the bathroom COLD. Again the owner Martin, argued that the bathroom heat could not be adjusted until the housekeeper could show up the next day.  We stayed three days and had very little to NO care or consideration.  Note to owner: don’t argue with your patrons....do what you can to make them comfortable.  Aside from all this there is mold in the bathroom broken light fixtures and stained dirty carpets.    I tried to load four pictures but only one is loading. 

Buyer beware

Definitely not a 4 star establishment!!!

The decor is new and chic, the "Castle Room" we were meant to be in has a nice, large bathroom. HOWEVER, the window of the room cannot be opened. There is no aircon, just two fans put up. At present temperatures, we stepped on arrival into a hot, sticky, smelly, overbearing room atmosphere, and nothing could be done about it. Calling the off-site management, they suggested opening the bathroom window. Yeah. That all does explain the smell others had described: a room that hasn't seen any fresh air... It seemed impossible we would be able to get any sleep in this posh gaschamber experience, so we rang the manager again. Within five minutes, we were asked to leave the premises, as they had put another booking into the room who'd arrive immenently. We went home again, where we can open the windows and get fresh air in to breath. Promised a refund, hope it arrives. Not at this price range.

We came, saw, and went home again

We had booked this as a birthday getaway. Unfortunately when we arrived the room was already occupied, and we could freely enter and have access to someone else's' things. Having driven 3 hours, we tried to ring the number provided a number of times and sent emails, however they were not answered. The host eventually contacted us the next day saying they were on a plane and the call should have been forwarded to the person taking care of the rooms. It turns out they had given the wrong code to the people who had the room. To their credit, they were apologetic and refunded us - and luckily a nearby hotel had a room. I would secure another number just to double check things if staying here. Looks like we are not the only ones who this has happened to.
