I booked with Hoseasons (unable to book direct) and registered a complaint with them.  Disappointingly, they just referred  it to Sandymouth Bay Resort for comment despite sending photos of the unacceptable condition of the unit they had sold me. They also then issued me with a revised invoice which said credit but was in fact an additional charge to bring the price UP to what I paid.  I was eventually offered £50 as a goodwill gesture and told they would not review again so take it or leave it.  Not very customer friendly!  Both my partner and myself have booked with Hoseasons in the past, but will be very reluctant to do so now.  They just would not accept any responsibility for my complaint despite providing evidence.  I was told I should have complained again while I was on site. Why?  I didn't want to face another nasty conversation.  I was supposed to be on holiday, relaxing and recovering, not facing hostility!!
My Complaint about 
Sandymouth Holiday Resort:
I stayed in a Boscastle Seaview 3 because I had stayed in one the previous year.  
NEVER AGAIN!  
Having been given my key, I arrived at the caravan and it stank.  Toasters and kettle were dented and had fingerprints on them. In fact there were fingerprints on a lot of things.  The dining table had a huge gouge out of it, the picture was dirty, the TV screen smeary, the radiators were rusty with one hanging off the wall with what looked like a dangerous connection.   There were also steep steps down to the caravan which I was afraid of in the dark to carry my luggage down.   Having travelled hundreds of miles on a wild windy and wet day, I was extremely tired and tearful at what I was met with.  I went up to see the manager and to show her photos and explain I wasn't happy.  I was made to feel I was in the wrong and was told 'what do you expect towards the end of the season'.  This was not the response I was expecting!!!  After getting extremely distressed with nowhere else to go, I was eventually offered two other units to look at.  Both were in a similar state and I felt I had to choose one of them, which I did.  All of them smelled of dogs, including my.pillows and when I went to put food in the freezer, I discovered two drawers were missing and the remaining one was severely broken.  The tumble dryer didn't work, the dining chairs were appalling and thick with rust and the overall smell was extremely unpleasant.  The guttering lay at the side of the caravan, the extractor fan was taped over badly because it was broken and constantly rattled.  I was too upset to complain again.  I cleaned the unit myself and opened all the doors and windows.  My overall opinion is that these units need a thorough refurbishment or replacement.  Certainly not worth the money during school holidays or peak rate times.  Such a shame for a site in a fantastic location with wonderful views.  I would have happily stayed there annually when visiting relatives and friends down there, but after this experience, I shall be going elsewhere.

Appalled by both Hoseasons and Sandymouth Bay

We stayed for new year in Boscastle sea view 3  .when we stayed we had terrible storms .Caravan was very draftyvwhich this was reported but wasn't sorted  The staff I think the ladies names were Carla and Lorraine  these ladies are very hardworking very polite and very very helpful   always  smiling and happy very sociable the other staff were also very nice too .The entertainment wasn't the best over new year ,the sat nite was just Owen playing music new yrs eve wasn't the best new yrs day was nothing  ,I understand there's alot of families with young children which they do need entertaining  I've had young children myself but I think there could have been alot more going on for everyone this is just my opinion  it may suit other families .As a resort it's spotless clean  food is excellent  and if the staff can help in anyway they will.

Apart from having no nearby parking, and a faint sicky smell the caravan was lovely.
We stayed during storm Henk and even with the strong winds the accomodation was more than ok for us. Lovely and warm. 

The restaurant and staff were all fantastic, the downside for us was that the site had been overbooked.

Don't bother with swimming, the pool was chaos and there's not enough changing rooms for everyone when they get you all out the pool at the same time after only 30mins swimming time.  Left standing in the cold with 2 toddlers and no access to towels or a changing room for more than 10mins.   The changing area was a bit grubby too. 

The evening entertainment is either heaving to the point you can't get in, or non existent despite being advertised on the schedule in the main reception. 

And the 0-5 children's play area was full of unsupervised over 10's (at least)  having fulll blown fist fights knocking our 4 and 2 year old flying on more than one occasion. 


A bit of a let down

Found the  place has No Rules . Told book for meals when it took an hour or longer for it to. Was busy and short staff but should make staff aware to not play with dogs and service people. Also no room in main  evening area. We were put at bottom of a steep slope which was not suitable for us . It’s a young person’s place . Based on kids . Children had lots to do . Nothing for adults only Bingo when it suited them as the night we were going to play it was cancelled.

Not suitable for the older generation

The park is excellent and it is especially geared up for children! Great location and views too. 

However I have some minor pointers: 

1) swimming - we got out the pool and there were no changing rooms available so we’re stood waiting with a 17 month old (which wasn’t ideal) and another family were standing soaking wet waiting too with a little one a similar age. 
2) swimming again - the changing room floor and reception floor were very dirty. A clean down in between sessions would be good I think and also a general mop of the reception area. Going out with damp feet and all the dust and dirt stuck to our feet. 
3) soft play - brilliant!!! However it says strictly under 5s. There were hordes of older children (some 12/13 even!) running around inside which meant our toddler couldn’t play safely so we had to leave here on two occasions. 
4) soft play hygiene- I wonder how often it is cleaned and could it benefit from more as it probably sees a lot of traffic going through every day. 

These things wouldn’t put me off returning again but would go a long way in improving satisfaction I think :)

Super resort with a few hygiene pointers

This the second time, in here we love this resort we love the cabins always very comfortable cousy, a lot of space, it is fantastic that they allow dogs it is cheap foe the quality we will definitely recommend this place we will coming back soon 

Very cousy 

We booked this holiday last minute and for the price was very good. Have swimming, soft play, a big ship park, we had evening entertainment which the kids really enjoyed :) swimming only last up to 45 minutes goes really quickly. Food was really nice and we had no problems with drinks I do recommend the passionfruit cocktail they are banging ! Looks and tastes delicious. The caravan was beautifully clean comes with everything we had an issue with the oven door but apart from that was a top holiday and highly recommend…..

Beautiful site. Beautiful views…

Resort is extremely well presented, checking in was simple and fast. Accomodation was excellent, more than enough room for our family of 4 and 2 dogs. Bar and restaurant were busy but service was fast and friendly. Danny and James ( hope I remembered their names correctly) were amazing. There is a real friendly buzz about the place, if you have dogs this is definitely the place for you.

Fantastic half term break

This site always comes up as we adore Cornwall and been to nearly all Darwin escapes we booked.. on arrive the caravan was super clean and everything you need was there. All pots and pans super clean.. the bathroom was very dated needs a bit of attention. Beds are normal size single beds but very very firm did not to have great sleeps was only given one pillow each..  we headed over to the bistro which when we entered I noticed it was a little bit crazy staff running around a big que at the bar and a busy restaurant, we took a seat and went to the bar and was told we was limited in choice as 3 beers had ran out and the order be in Thursday!!  
I found that absolutely crazy it’s a holiday park it’s half term the site was so busy no excuse none at all I’ve never been to a park to be told we was limited as they ran out ..manager made a big error there!!  we ordered dinner which was not great either . Our experience of the bar and bistro poor!! We decided to drive 30 mins out every evening from then .. I won’t be going back here I’ve stayed in better .. 

Always comes up when we search for a holiday

We booked this site because it was good  value we haven’t stayed here before and it sold offshore beer, it was a 50/50 here or another Darwin escapes, because this one sold offshore we went for this, we rang twice the site once when booked then a month before just checking they still sell it, which they said they did, our first 2 mins of us getting into the bar (Monday night) they had sold out the offshore, we couldn’t believe it,  the member of the staff said it would be back in the next night, then another member of staff said it won’t be on the next day’s delivery but Thursdays!! Our last night where we wouldn’t be drinking, after this having a big effect why we chose this we felt we was let down the excuse from the member of staff saying it was the managers fault because he was on holiday, I’m sorry but this camp is poorly run, not ordering vital refreshments before they actually run out very lazy, by Wednesday 4 other drinks ran out, this is completely not acceptable! We eat at the restaurant here gammon stake wasn’t great very dry and tough, the caravan boscastle 3, was spacious but i wasn’t keen on the design considering it is one of best it felt like we was sitting in the kitchen, I think it not having carpet made it less cosy, it was very clean though spotless in fact, the holiday park was just an ok for me, but as Darwin escapes go this was considerably the worse I have stayed will not be returning
