Monkton Wyld Court

I visited Monkton Wyld Court for a few days for a personal writing retreat. The bookings coordinator was incredibly helpful and accommodating, allowing me to stay in the wooden cabin in the grounds, as the rooms in the main house were fully booked for the dates I wanted. It is a quirky but stunning place (beautiful old vicarage and grounds). The views were breathtaking and it is very quiet and peaceful. The staff were lovely and invited me to eat dinner with them. I would thoroughly recommend this place for people wanting to get away from the busyness of life for a few days whether to write, or just take a break. I came home refreshed and rested and having done lots of writing!

This is my second review for the end of my stay at this site. 

Do not hesitate to book. I cannot commend this place enough.

I stayed for a week to finish a draft of my novel, and the environment was perfect for this. The residents are friendly, and the other guests were as well - but not so much so that it distracted me. There is a tiny pub where you can have a drink and chat at the end of the day, the beds are comfortable, and they gave me a massive room with a sofa and armchair, which meant I could write in various locations around the room all day. 

The writer's retreat is full board (self-service breakfast, plus cooked lunch and dinner), and the food is incredible - vegetarian (often vegan) and delicious. It was a perfect environment, and I'm hoping to come back again. 

This isn't a luxury place, but it is perfect to get some work done, meet interesting people, and hear about sustainable agricultural and lifestyle practices. The other guests while I was there were mostly walkers or other people on writing retreats, or people there for courses/events. It has a great community feel as a result.

The other thing to know is that it's not very near cities/towns, and I don't drive. It was fine, as I was able to walk (a couple hours) to Lyme Regis, and got a taxi from the nearby station (you can also get a bus, I think). Just something to know - for me it was good, as it meant there were even fewer distractions! 

Tea is provided but I recommend you bring your own coffee and snacks for during the day. The pub is mostly beer and cider.

Amazing place run by lovely people. We had a really easygoing short break staying here.  It's got so much character and the area is fantastic.  It would have been nice to have hung around a bit more for the atmosphere/social interaction but we had little time and a few plans.  It is a hostel (and I think they're clear about that up front) so don't expect hotel-style service but it had everything we needed and more. I've stayed in quite a few hostels and this was very pleasant and comfortable

we were are Monkton Court for a course - unfortunately the weather caused a few problems - however that aside we really enjoyed staying there for two nights. Lovely food and very relaxing place to be. Only thing I wasn't so keen on was not having an en suite toilet - however that didn't really detract from the lovely atmosphere and incredibly friendly people/community that live there

Monkton Wyld Court primarily runs eco friendly courses but also runs B&B/camping. Not a place I would usually stay however I stayed in the B&B and  I absolutely loved the atmosphere, the setting and the experience. It was simple, clean and very very charming. There was a tiny bar in the English country garden selling beer in the evening with guests sat around a fire pit roasting marshmallows. No TV but there is WiFi. Vegetarian Breakfast was simple - but great and you have to wash up your own dishes. It was as like going back in time - lovely  atmosphere. There were numerous shared bathrooms - all very clean. The rooms were basic but comfortable. I absolutely loved it there and will go back again. Only regret is that we didn’t have supper there! It smelt delicious.

Great place to stay. Clean, light and warm rooms and great value. I booked for a hostel but it felt more like a b and b than a hostel. Bedding was provided no need to bring a sleeping bag. Good free wifi.

This is an alternative community, so very different from staying in conventional accommodation.  There is loads of space, lovely public areas, plenty of quiet when we were there.  The 'market 'gardens to explore and a 'pub' in the garden.  Everyone was really friendly, and it was just so peaceful.  Great sop on the South West Coast Path.

We come as a singing and dancing weekend each November to this lovely community. We get plenty of great vegetarian food as we request. The grounds are brilliant to walk in and the farm produces good organic food for us to enjoy. They have improved the bathrooms and heating which is difficult in such a Victorian old rectory! There are deer in the church yard next door. The smallest pub in the area has good beers. The residents are helpful and unobtrusive. Do give it a try
