What an amazing pub!  Great vibe and friendly people.  Good to meet the landlord and his family, wonderful food and great selection of drinks.  Will be returning.  Had the pork belly on Friday night which was divine, steak on Saturday evening, then returned for and awesome roast dinner before we left on Sunday.  Five XXXXX

We stayed 2 nights in May with our 2 dogs and loved it,  We stayed in room 5 which which was a good size.  The room was pretty basic, but had everything we needed and the bed was big and comfy.  The location is in the middle of nowhere, but is a 30 second walk from a lovely pub.   There are no toiletries in the room so make sure you take what you need.   There was a fridge in the room and some coffee but nothing else, but we asked at the pub for some tea and milk which they happily gave us so at least we could have a cup of tea in the morning.  The accommodation is room only ie. No breakfast and there’s nowhere nearby to get anything to eat, but we were aware and just drove to the coast (5 miles and 15 mins) and had breakfast on the beach.  West Dorset is beautiful and there are loads of fabulous walks and coast line nearby.  The pub was fab with a great selection of ale and wine as well as lovely food.  We ate there both nights and would thoroughly recommend.   We’d certainly come again.

.Great pub deep in the Dorset Hills. Charismatic landlord keen to please who deserves success. Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch in the marquee. Ample portions of well prepared food. Succulent meat and crispy roasties complemented by vegetables which were tender and not soggy. Would love to return to experience the inside. Walked off lunch with a stroll over Pilsdon Pen, a couple of miles to the north of the village and the highest hill in Dorset. What a view!

Came across this hidden gem after getting turned away from another pub. Glad we did!!!! Lovely welcoming and friendly owner greeted us so happily and found us a lovely table where nothing was too much trouble. Just taken over 5 weeks before and you’d never have known. Lovely atmosphere with 2 roaring fires and lots of cosy corners. Absolutely delicious food and locally sourced. Proper country pub with an abundance of character. We will definitely be back! What a find!

Went to this beautiful pub for a friends 30th birthday, service was great from the friendliest staff, food was amazing the roast lamb was soo good!! It was warm and cosy with the fire burning, and the skittle ally was great fun too. Will definitely be back again soon

What an absolute little gem of a venue. From the moment we arrived to departure, we were made to feel very welcome. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, set in the cosy beautifully styled pub with a roaring open fire. The rooms are very comfortable and tastefully designed. Definitely worth the stay and would highly recommended to anyone visiting the surrounding area

Stayed here under it the best circumstances (attending a funeral) and had a lovely time considering the nature of our visit...

The old style pub with open roaring fire was so cosy and the food was great, both dinner (which was extra) and a full English in the morning (which was included). 

The rooms were spacious and clean and although cold at first (it is almost winter), the heating system was great and warmed the place up in no time. 

Staff were so welcoming and friendly and you really got a sense of it being a family run business which made it feel really personal and warm. 

Great surroundings and so glad we found it as we all said we would come back another time!

Fantastic food, lovely buzzing atmosphere and a very warm welcome. Thank you Joe and Louise for an enjoyable evening. Our friends had not been back to this pub since their one visit some years ago, but this time they loved the food and atmosphere and said they will be back the next time they visit.

If you are in the area you really have to make the effort to visit. The food is a absolutely gorgeous and the staff are extremely attentive, friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back again tomorrow.

Room was well furnished and of good quality furniture, fittings etc.
Pub was excellent, food was served to a high standard, good portion size and friendly atmosphere. We look hard for pubs like this and it's rural location; beer garden excellent and lots of space. Nothing really to criticise here.

Wonderful place & Great food

Great accommodation

My wife and I had a very nice evening meal at the Shave Cross Inn.  Tom was an excellent host.  The 'flight of ales' (i.e. three small glasses of different ales) was a very good idea.  So good that I had to have it a number of times.  The food was very good and well presented.  All in all, we had a very pleasant evening.
