The Cnoc Hotel

We love this family run hotel. There’s always a lovely warm welcome and it’s a delight to return to when we are able. We feel the owners cannot do enough for us, and feel more like friends.
The beds are very comfortable, the food is great and the surroundings are wonderful to explore especially in autumn.

We arrived fairly early in the sunny afternoon. Nevertheless, we received a warm welcome from an obliging host, Duncan, who cheerfully carried all our luggage up to the room. The room was simple clean, the beds were comfortable and seemingly everything  had been thought of.
The hotel is set back from the road and, if the weather is good, it is very pleasant to sit outside in the grounds at one of the wooden tables and enjoy a nice cool beer.
The restaurant is cavernous and rustic. The food is simple, honest and very good, especially the steaks.
The breakfast is superb.
The bar is nice and cosy and well stocked.

What a fantastic place with amazing staff! We was staying across the road and Erchless castle and was once again blown away with the hospitality we received from Duncan and his team, we booked a meal for 13 of us including a gluten free vegan and we couldn't of asked for more! The food was delicious 😋

This is a gem of a hotel.  We stayed 5 nights to bag Munros in the area.  Duncan made us welcome from the moment we arrived, showing us to our comfortable and well appointed rooms.  The bar is a great meeting place for locals and guests, the lounge is relaxing and comfortable (with a log fire one day to keep the cold at bay) and the dining room is a great space.  The food was delicious - we particularly enjoyed the no choice meals on the days that the restaurant was not open to the public - with the venison lasagne a highlight.  The staff are helpful, really efficient and friendly.  There's an interesting and varied wine list and draft beer, together with some good whiskies.  There is loads of parking, by the hotel and just down the drive, and the area is beautiful, particularly Strath Farrar, which you access through a locked gate (25 cars per day, first come first served).  We will definitely be returning.

Set in picturesque and really peaceful countryside about 40 mins from loch ness .
Duncan,the owner made me welcome on arrival.and took time going through the room details and meal times etc.
The hotel has a well stocked bar and is very welcoming and friendly .
I didn't have an evening meal but I did overhear good comments from those who did .
Breakfast was served between 7.30 and 9.30 and was well presented and plentiful.
Overall this is a family run hotel in a fabulous location ,I am so pleased to have chosen it for my last nights stay in Scotland. 
If you do have an opportunity to stay here you will.not be disappointed. 


My husband & I have stayed in this area many time due to my Ancestors living/working  in Glen strathfarrar in the middle of the Glen at Ardchulk & so knew this hotel as The Cnoc Inn so naturally booked to stay at the Cnoc not realising that new owners had  bought the Inn ---Well we were delighted to see new life being brought into this quaint Inn sympathetically done too  (such a HIGH standard ) Duncan & Luzan were great hosts & our evening meal of roast chicken was delicious--& our breakfast just as we liked it --hopefully we will get back to my  next year & will be able to stay longer --

Putting to one side the somewhat unfortunate delay of about four weeks in me now sitting down to write this review, I find myself once again reminiscing on another fantastic stay with Duncan and Luzaan at the Cnoc.

As returning guests, we can lay testament to the fact that the hotel continues to go from strength to strength and, as with last year, we have already secured our place for the same long weekend in
2024 - with, I might add - an additional night factored in.

If you are considering booking your first stay at this wonderful establishment, I strongly urge you to stop faffing and do so. Immediately.

We were staying locally and came here as a family for an evening meal one Friday in September. Wonderful, friendly warm welcome and attentive (but not intrusive) service throughout the evening. The food was fabulous - beautifully presented and delicious. Loved the decor and ambience too. Would love to stay here if we return to the area again. Totally exceeded our expectations. The website does not do it justice.

We stayed for 4 nights in August and we really enjoyed exploring this area that we hadn't been to previously. Duncan & Luzaan are great hosts and all of the staff were really friendly & helpful. We stayed in "Lovat" which was comfortable, clean and spacious with a great view.  Duncan is an excellent cook and we had some delicious meals during our stay and Luzaan makes some fantastic desserts.
We went into Beauly which has a ruined priory and some useful and interesting shops and a nice river walk on the outskirts of the town. We also explored Glen Affric, taking in Dog falls, Plodda falls and on our last day we did a circuit of the loch. The "walkhighlands app" covers this area and is currently free to download.
Closer to the hotel is Strathfarra which is a lovely drive leading to a dam through a beautiful valley. The number of cars are restricted and you need to stop at the gate house to be able to proceed but well worth doing. 
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break here and will definitely return.


The warmest welcome you could imagine.  Nothing was too much trouble and we were late arriving but they made us so welcome and didn’t rush us. Supper and breakfast were superb - properly home made and well done.  Wine list was interesting and not over priced.  The whole place had a lovely feel.  Would highly recommend
