Staff brilliant, food great including breakfast, room good, very satisfied.

Excellent service from delightful staff. Food was also very good.

Lovely old inn, very charming, nice clean room, we stayed in the double deluxe room, bed was incredible comfortable.Car park on site a plus, staff were very welcoming.

Ideal for discovering Battle and the delights of Battle Abbey. The staff were excellent as was the food, comfortable accommodation and will visit again.

Very cute and quirky little venue, the staff were friendly and accommodating. Would recommend

Yet again another amazing Sunday lunch, we love this place.  Honestly, the best Sunday lunch ever, and the most friendliest and attentive staff (although we did miss Caroline.)  There were eight of us, all had different roasts and various other things, we all said the same thing, absolutely delicious, thank you.

Cant fault the manager's or staff 10/10 for service and friendliness. The bar areas were clean and had character with the odd bit of quirkiness thrown in. We had two breakfasts and evening meals. Both had great choices and were a few notches up on the usual pub grub. Quality local produce, cooked and presented well. There is a chef in the kitchen. Unfortunately the accommodation wasn,t up to the same standard. The room was spacious and clean but the quality of the furniture was very poor. The en-suite was tiny with a very small hand basin with a glass shelf above so that you can crack your head on when attempting to lean over the basin. If the other rooms was the same as ours i would suggest some investment is required to bring it up to reasonable standards.Would i stay there again ?....Yes, when refurbishment has been carried out

Lovely old pub in Battle with great food. I have stayed here before with no problems. My room this time  - room 4 was not the best. I am 6’ tall and the bathroom ceiling was so low that I couldn’t stand up in it. This made showering particularly difficult. I would stay here again but not in this room

Lovely pub slight room issue!

The room was bright cheerful and the traffic noise was light even though the hotel was on a busy road junction. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and there was plenty for your money.Lots character as the inn was centuries old. You did have to be careful coming in and out of the room as the stairs were at different levels and angles. On the whole I was pleased with the cleanliness and character of the room and the inn.

Despite being on a corner, the streets were quiet at night. All the staff I dealt with were smiling and helpful. Very easy to walk to castle and shops. Evening meal good and hot. If any fault to be mentioned it was that it was hard to know which way to turn on the hot water and which shower head. A note in the Information booklet would be helpful.

On Sunday I came to the chequers to be welcomed with a lovely smile from the waiters and was taken to my table by Charlie when I was seated down the was a vast variety of options on the menu but I went for the chicken roast it it was spectacular the chicken was perfectly cooked the vegetables were just amazing. Chalrie looked after us very well 5 stars for me

Amazing

We were met with a friendly smile on making our booking and given permission to leave our car in the pubs car park whilst we went for a 3 hour walk in the lovely countryside around Lamberhurst village and Scotney Castle. The welcome and service from Helen and Kieran was warm and professional. The burgers were tasty and filling and washed down with a well kept pint of Harveys Bitter.

Very Enjoyable Visit

My friend and I ate here recently and had a very enjoyable lunch. I had the chicken Caesar salad. Our waitress Cara was extremely attentive and helpful and we would definitely return. The selection of wines was pleasing although some were a little out of our budget! Loved the position of the river flowing through the garden.

Attentive staff, lovely garden, delicious food

Just back from a lovely lunch in a quiet relaxed pub by the river. Lovely seating areas outside by the river Teise.
Adam and the staff at The Chequers were friendly and efficient. 
The menu was not vast but enough to please the four of us. Can recommend the Buttermilk chicken breast burger, it was yummy and would order again.    
Definitely will be going back.
