Very friendly, very luxurious and well priced. From the moment we met Tina, we felt welcome. The accommodation was beyond excellent.A Good nights sleep proves that. Good was good, and the optional taxi service into town and back was welcome. 

An Excellent Choice for Couples. 

A lovely traditional bed and breakfast, all the comforts of home with a charming hostess who has had many years of experience making her guests feel at home . I stayed as a solo traveller , my room was at the front looking into a road, it has a clean fresh en-suite shower room with towels and toiletries supplied , a small colour tv , tea and coffee making facilities with chocolate biscuits , a hair drier and free WiFi . Free car parking at the rear . Breakfast is included and there’s plenty of choice but I went for grapefruit and then full English including Derbyshire oatcake and black pudding . I noticed there is also what looks like a self contained holiday cottage on site . I really enjoyed my stay, slept well and couldn’t recommend highly enough . The other guests who were staying were going to Alton Towers which is apparently very close by , so that might be a big plus for some .

A cosy homely but professional B&B

Comfortable , but  if you are a light sleeper it's right on the A52 and a front bedroom wouldn't be ideal  We had wonderful vista of the rear garden, masses of beautifil tubs, hanging baskets,farmland and cattle Secluded, sunny sitting out are for guests at the rear , with garden armchairs and coffee table. Excellent breakfast menu , perfectly cooked, beautifully set table,  immaculate  and charming ground floor area. Upstairs- the Bathroom we had was  enormous , as large as the bedroom, and although the electric shower unit itself was very 1980s, the separate bath, basin and loo were very modern. Everything very clean. Bed comfy and looked new. The room is let down by dated and tired furniture.  Finances must be limited post Covid and this lovely lady is doing everything herself and on her own.

Superb breakfast

Overnighted here last night and it was a perfect place to rest. As others have said, the back room is quieter, though what traffic noise there was didn’t bother us. Room was smallish, but the bathroom was huge with both shower and bath!  The view over open countryside was a nice bonus

Breakfast was cooked to order in the morning so was piping hot. Also obviously high quality food is used here, it was all delicious. 

With only two rooms, it’s never going to be busy, but as it was just us it was extra peaceful

A great choice

Great little B&B

Booked a weeks stay in the cottage. Ideal one bedroom cottage for touring the area. The cottage is clean and cosy. Very good value for money. The owner was very helpful. Ashbourne is a short walk from the cottage. 

Holiday break

Tina was so welcoming & my room was great with a good tea tray & a lovely glass airtight bottle of tap water - very environmentally friendly. The lovely bathroom had environmentally toiletries - only 2nd time I've ever seen that - in another Guest House never in hotels who all claim to be helping the environment. So excellent on that front. The breakfast was great with a very good selection; I only got as far as the cooked breakfast as that was perfectly adequate & so tasty. The seated area at the bottom of such a lovely well tended garden was very relaxing as were the views over the countryside. Tina keeps the bushes at the front cut back for drivers. I travelled by public transport & found it so handy with the Uttoxeter to Derby bus 2 mins walk away & Ashbourne 15-20 mins walk away where there are buses to various interesting places.

Overall pleasant B&B with a warm host.
Our room was small - but comfortable. Bathroom had bath, shower, good toiletries.
The breakfast in the morning was awesome, served 8-9am: All made fresh by the gracious and welcoming host.

Ample car parking space - Free.

Dovedale Car Park for the Dovedale Trail or the Bunster Hill Walk (we did both) - is about 15 mins drive from here - so it is actually the Gateway to Peak District.

Drive to Ashbourne Town Centre for any necessities is a 5 mins one.
Great Pizza & Kebab place - called Bennys Pizza is there, can be tried.

Close to the Lilacs is:
Aldi - for shopping
a great pub called THE STEPPING STONES - delicious food/drinks post the hikes.

Would stay again if visiting this part of the Peak District.

Comfortable Stay - Great for South Peak District Hiking

Overall pleasent B&B with lovely host. Breakfast is served 8am-9am with selection of cereals, yoghurt and fruit followed by cooked to order full English. Food was tasty and well cooked. Willing to serve earlier if required and provide pack lunches. Parking available at rear of property. Is worth noting that the front bedroom is located overlooking the fairly busy road. Quiet at night but traffic from 7am onwards which was fine for me as I was out early everyday but not as relaxing/remote as some peak district locations if you were wanting to sleep in.

Nice B&B

We wanted to visit some National Trust properties within Derbyshire and needed somewhere central that could provide a single night. We found this on Google and it was within 20 minutes of each of the properties we wanted to see.
We arrived at The Lilacs about 5pm and went to our room. We had the room on the front and whilst it was just off an A road it did not disturb us. The room was really well appointed with a double room and en-suite bathroom. We went out for tea to The Stepping Stone pub, the food was good.
For breakfast we both had eggs on toast with additional toast to go with jam.
The hostess was very pleasant and pointed the local pub for good food.
We found other places to visit whilst here and will definitely visit The Lilacs again.

An oasis of calm

Was attending a function locally and needed a 1 night stay. The Lilacs B&B had good reviews and we found out why. Had a phonecall the day before arrival to say that a guest was staying an extra night so we would be in The Cottage annexe, this was a real bonus. It appears to be a converted detached large garage consisting on a lounge area with patio doors onto a small paved area, 2 chairs & table looking over fields. seperate kitchen and larder. Upstairs was  bedroom and seperate shower room/wc. The bed was extremely comfortable. We were spoilt. Breakfast is excellent too a jug of orange juice each choice of cereals, fruit, yogurt, white/wholemeal toast and jam/marmalade and tea or coffee. I had the full english, local produced sausage and bacon, egg, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding and local oatcake. My wife had scrambled eggs on toast. both were very good. The welcome was very warm and genuine. Great value for money too. We will definitely be back if in the area again.
