Hotel Gumus Pension

Gumus's amazing hospitality truly makes this hotel. We booked a 6-bed dorm with shared bathroom but were upgraded to a 4-bed with private bathroom because Gumus said it was cold outside (loo is outside) and this room was nicer and available. It was quiet at the time and there was no one else staying in our room, so we had it to ourselves for 5 nights! We LOVED our cave room, it felt very authentic, because Gumus hotel is actually carved into the rock. We loved it's little quirks (eg. cave dust falling in the loo), though they may not satisfy all. If you're looking for somewhere pristine and sparkling you probably shouldn't stay in a cave hotel. If you want to experience the warm friendly Turkish hospitality - look no further than Gumus. He is so warm and happy and will talk to you and tell you stories about his cat, Kofi. He made us feel so at home and it was so nice to come back to his hotel after a big day of exploring. He made baked potatoes a few nights that we stayed which he shared with his guests and gave us hot tea on arrival. He asked us if we wanted to book tours but was not pushy when we said we wanted to explore ourselves. There is a lovely garden there with fresh apples that you can take with you on daytrips for snacks. There's a beautiful view of the balloons, if you can get up early enough, from the balcony. It's a fantastic location in Göreme - really close to heaps of the treks, open air museum etc. The common room is really cosy and warm as Gumus has the fire going. Our rooms were also toasty warm. The wifi and hot water wasn't fabulous in the room but it's a cave! So the fact that there's any at all still amazes me! One thing to note, is that the shuttle from the Nevsehir airport was 20 TL not 15 TL as advertised.
