Awesome location in dyabakir in the old town near one part if the wall and not far from most of the points of interests. For 40tl with a fridge and ac. It is really good considering the blasting summer heat. Staff does not speak much english but will try to help you out the most they can. The room colours are quite funky as mine was bright pink. Breakfast is included and it is the standard breakfast served in the area.

I hired Omar, the hotels guide and I have absolutely no regrets. Great guy empathic and very patient, he takes you around the city in a way you would not do it yourself plus he knows a lot of people and can act as translator for you. He answers any questions you have. I normally do not hire guides but I did following reviews I read on Tripadvisor and myself recommend doing the tour with Omar.

In terms of value for money this was the best hotel I stayed in in Turkey. Rooms were small but felt very very comfortable despite their size, and very homely furnished; with air conditioning. The bathroom was cramped but not really an issue. I stayed an extra night in Diyarbakir almost solely because of this hotel. On the third floor away from the street it was relatively peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was small and not included but was not expensive either. The staff were friendly and fantastically were able to wash my clothes for a small extra charge. It is centrally located within the old city walls and walkable to all the main sites. Would definitely recommend staying here.

We were two women, alone, travelling in a less touristic area of Turkey...but a very interesting one. This hotel was clean and staff were friendly and helpful, though not many of them spoke English...the breakfast was plentiful, but they seemed taken aback that I wanted milk for my tea in the morning. But because I couldn't recall the Turkish word for milk (which now I'll never forget)...the all male staff led me back into their immaculate kitchen to allow me to rummage through the giant double doored cooler to locate the milk. 

The hotel decor is a bit strange for western tastes, but the linens were clean. EVERYONE smokes, so the lobby and even the staircases, hallways and elevators were smokey, which is standard for that region and beyond. All in all it felt safe, clean, and comfortable, aside from the plumes of smoke which billowed from the contented looking men occupying the lobby chairs from morning till night.

Cosy Hotel in the Old Town

Utilitarian digs with helpful staff

This place came pretty highly recommended in my Lonely Planet guidebook, so I stayed there during a four-day trip to Diyarbakir.  The Surkent comes with plusses and minuses.  On the plus side, location is good (just inside the northern gate of the old city), the prices are reasonable, and the staff are reasonably friendly.  On the downside, the color scheme is wacky (my room featured bright pink and equally bright orange), there is little English spoken, breakfast is not included, over the course of my stay my bed was never made nor were the towels changed, the room wasn't exactly clean (e.g., previous guests had left fruits in the room's refrigerator, waste basket hadn't been emptied), and during my last day the wifi connection was intermittent.

One feature of the Surkent is a that a local guide named Omer is friends of the owner and is likely to contact you offering his services.  He speaks good English, leads tours of town, and can arrange assistance visiting regional sites such as Mt Nemrut and Mardin.

The staff were friendly, but did not speak English at all. A good location, but the parking is just on the street. The food served at breakfast was usually good (with minor exceptions).

There were many issues in the bathroom - low water pressure, temporal lack of hot water, toilet flush was not working at all, tobacco odor
