During our 10 days in Trinidad & Tobago, my buddy and I stayed at four different places. Peter's Amazon Lodge was absolutely the most fun! The accommodations were totally satisfactory (though not luxurious--this isn't the Hyatt Regency in Paris, after all), but the exceptional thing was having Peter join us for breakfast and dinner each day -- he's just an exceptionally nice guy, with an endless collections of stories about his life in England, Iran, and Trinidad. Be sure to ask him about the 1963 Land Rover in the garage, and the moose and cow head up on the wall in his living room. A special treat was having Peter bring us dinner from a great variety of local restaurants each night. I have to say, we were sad to have to say goodbye to Peter and move on -- he really went out of his way to ensure that we had a fun and comfortable stay at Amazon Lodge.

Had a wonderful stay here. Peter made you feel welcomed and at home. Will definitely recommend to others and will be there again. The scenery was relaxing. Was more than expected. Merry Christmas Peter!! Looking forward to visiting again soon. 

Great getaway!!

I had the pleasure of staying at Amazon Lodge twice this year and I cant wait to return! Peter is a fantastic host who is happy to share his knowledge and help out with any plans you may have. The house is set up on a hill in a beautiful garden full of birds and it is a very tranquil place to relax during the day! (the pets are fun too!).

I cannot recommend this place enough!!

A home from home

The Amazon Lodge is a lovely place to stay. The house is spacious and very homely, with a large porch to eat or relax on and with a beautiful view of the garden and valley. Peter is a great and gracious host who makes you feel very welcome and at home, is extremely helpful, full of stories and very happy to share his love and 40-year experience of the island or take you a tours. I would highly recommend the Lodge to any friends planning to visit Trinidad!

Feel at home in Trinidad

A trip to Trinidad would not be complete with a stay at the Amazon Lodge!  Peter is a gracious, knowledgeable host and the property has a stunning view of the valley below.  And everything works as it should.  Best Thai food in Trinidad, IMHO!

My second visit -- like dropping in on a friend!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Amazon Lodge for Carnival 2019. My stay there was nothing short of amazing thanks to my great host Peter. Peter goes above and beyond to ensure his guests have a quality stay. He is extremely knowledgeable and has tons of great stories and facts about the country. It was always a great time kicking back and having a chat with Peter whether it was during a drive, over lunch, or a drink.
Peter met me at the airport and greeted me with my first drink of the vacation. This was then followed by a quick stop to Curepe, a bustling part of Trinidad just a short distance from the lodge, for some "doubles," a local delicacy.
Upon arriving at the lodge, I was instantly amazed at the beautiful view. The lodge itself sits atop a hill overseeing the southern part of the country (I may have screwed up this fact, still a beauty view regardless). I was immediately greeted by Lady, a silly little dog that makes a great companion during those times you to sit out on the patio and relax. She is super friendly and quiet; many times you forget she is even around. 

The accomodations were great. The room (dolphin room) was cozy,  the bed comfortable, the AC worked, and of course, very clean. The room came with a cell phone that I was allowed to travel with. Peter encourages you to check in and not hesitate to call him in case of an emergency. I primarily used it to communicate with Peter to coordinate local drop-offs and pickups; a service he offers for free to all of his guests.

With carnival in full swing, you would imagine the streets of Trinidad being full of life and excitement. Amazon lodge was the perfect escape from all of the rum and ramajay.  It is so peaceful and serene. I did not imagine I would be traveling to Trinidad for carnival and finding serenity the moments I desperately needed it – all the partying is EXHAUSTING.

All in all, whether it is for carnival or just visiting the beautiful country, I highly recommend the Amazon Lodge. Hope to be there again for carnival 2020.

Hidden Carnival Gem

Our stay at the Amazon Lodge was AMAZING! Peter the host was very pleasant, humorous and enjoyable. He made us feel at home and didn’t hesitate to help with anything we needed. Peter is very present and honestly became like a cool dad to us and we now even share a bunch of inside jokes. If you’re looking for a very tranquil environment with no noise, great scenery and a “ homey” feel then look no further. We have 0 complaints and would definitely come back next year!!

Trinidad Carnival 2019

Me and my boyfriend decided to come to Trinidad for carnival, during this adventure we did rent a car and stayed at the Amazon lodge. Scared about this foreign country and what our hotel would be like we encountered Peter who was a lovely host and made our stay very plesant. He is packed with knowledge of things to do in Trinidad and where to go. It was great being able to converse with him and he really makes you feel like you are in your own home. I had a great time at the lodge and an especially great time enjoying Carnival for the very first time. Although we didn’t spend much time at the lodge the time we did spend there was truly unforgettable with Peters great company. The lodge is located conviniently 15-20 mins away from all the local spots and major high ways. I look forward to booking our stay again! Till next time and thank you for being such a great host !

Carnival Fun

We stayed at Amazon Lodge in early February for three nights on a trip revisiting Trinidad after a gap of 25 years. The Lodge enjoys a lovely position high up with views across the city above St Augustine. Sitting on the veranda with a cold Carib is the perfect way to relax with the only distraction being the frequent visits from all manner of colourful tropical birds.

Peter is a very attentive and helpful host. We chose to rent a car and so were mobile, but Peter arranged evening meals at the Lodge from local restaurants. We had a particular wish to visit a pan yard to watch a steel band rehearsing and Peter arranged this spending a very enjoyable few hours with us watching the mesmerizing sight of more than a hundred band members working in harmony. Plus cold beers and G & Ts! There is a well stocked trust bar at the Lodge and the continental breakfast is a perfect start to the day.

Peter was also very helpful in suggesting things to do and places to see and helped making some arrangements for us. The accommodation and amenities  were all very comfortable adding up to a very enjoyable stay in dear old Trini.
