A family member made the arrangements for us to stay here for 2 nights. When she made the reservation, she asked for a receipt and the employees refused to give her one. When we got to the hotel, they did not want to check us in because they said we need a receipt to check in. After much arguing, they checked us in and the room was DISGUSTING. It smelled awful, the toilet and shower were brown, and the furniture was all broken. When we went to get a refund, they refused to give us a refund because we did not have a receipt. A complete scam. We ended up staying at a different hotel. 

AVOID!!

Arrived at about 1930pm on a Sunday night as the usual restaurants I frequent were too full and didn't feel like waiting forever for food. 

So my partner suggested Kahana, a place I had never heard of in over a year of living in Tonga, it was actually on the road behind my house.

The place has a good location and is laid out well. Despite this it was almost empty, on the busiest day of the week for any restaurant in Tonga. This should have raised red flags but i was hungry so took the chance.

So the menu looked pretty good, fairly similar to most other chinese restaurants in Tonga and we ordered a variety of dishes as we were both starving.

It took almost 30 minutes for some dumplings to arrive. 

They were okay, the rest of the food was terrible. No flavor, seafood looked like it was caught in the 19th century and preserved in direct sunlight and just overall bad.

So after a bunch of bad food and waiting for an hour and a half in an empty place, I decided I would not wait any longer for my main course to arrive and walked up to the bar counter to cancel my next order and to pay the bill for the food we ate.

This is when both the manager and the ''boss'' started arguing with me that because i ordered it i should pay it. Even though i felt i was being kind enough to offer for the vomit they had already served us.

All in all, the kind of place where you would host a dinner party for a bunch of people that you really dislike.

I wish i could say the service was okay and the problem lied only in the food, but this would be a lie.
The waiters are sat down on a chair with their eyes closed seemingly half asleep.
I asked for pepper and salt, which was not even on the table, and after i had spiced up the bland chicken soup she took it away again. I am assuming the only reason for this was that there is only one pepper shaker on the property.

Though in all honesty i can not blame the waiters for their bad service, I would be near suicidal if I had to work in a dump like this.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I would feel bad to let my dog eat here.

What a complete mess. We arranged for someone to pick us up from the airport as we were getting in really early in the morning, and they had emailed to say that they would. When we arrived, no one was there to pick us up, and when a taxi driver took us there, the gate was locked, no one answered their phone, or to the taxi's constant horn. It took us another two hours to find a place that would take us in, as someone did at 5.30am. Such a bad experience.

Never picked us up from the airport, and never stayed there

This may be a long review so bear with me. My family members that live on the island made the arrangements. They first went there to get a quote it was 200 a night. When I arrived and went to check in it was 250 because something about discussions between employees weren't right. I ended up paying for a week. The funny thing was there were HUGE discrepancies with what each customer paid. Apparently you were suppose to get a good discount once you stayed for 3 nights which we did but for that first week it was 250 each night. Later the guy at the front desk said that was because we didn't talk to him. For the 2nd week and a half (for a total of 2.5 wks) he told us we can pay 200 and move to the ocean front bungalo (we were current staying in the one of the middle bungalos. We paid for the 1.5 wks we had left at this rate with the promise we were moving to the ocean side huts the following day. That did not happen because there was some kind of problem. So the next day after that we said if we weren't moved to the ocean side hut we were leaving and wanted a refund. At this point the girls were back at the front desk  and they said that the man had no right making that sort of deal but that isn't even allowed. They had to physically move the beds from our hut to the ocean side hut. That's the rate war there IS no set amount so if you stay here negotiate your own price lord knows you'll get a wayyyy better deal than we did. Our 2nd night at the oceanside hut we were robbed. There were 3 of them lucky for us they were interested in the money/goods we had that we slept through it but our total loss was over 10k in US dollars. When we informed the hotel that this happened they didn't seem all that concerned. We had family contact the police eventually with all that visits to the police station this isn't the first time this has happened here. As for food it was different day to day if you were ordering the same thing. My husband ordered the same thing daily so I guess it depends on who is cooking. It was ok. Plumbing at this hotel was not very good. We continuously had to have the lid to the toilet off cause it got plugged for no good reason. The hot water and water pressure after 2 days stopped working so we had to get them to fix it. This happened often i'm guessing. Also the cleaning here was subpar. We basically got the mop and the broom ourselves off of their housekeeping cart. We were there for over a week and not once was our sheets changed. I had to physically change the sheets ourselves. The towel are small and somtimes not always clean I brought my own. When we changed rooms the room was pretty dirty after they cleaned it before we switched. We mopped our own floors and swept our own room. The cleaning guy is kind cool though we liked him. But honestly he just takes out the trash. One day I did see him emptying out the trash into the lil water bay thing they got going on. When they have huge parties here you can forget about parking if you come after it has started. Also those days are pretty unsafe. There is zero security and on the days they have security he goes home early. They had neighborhood kids trying to sell food out of their cooler at your hotel door.They allow people/workers to drink in the main lobby/dining hall all hours of the night. People are passed out drunk on the chairs in the hall area. Everyday there are a few. They ONLY have chinese tv so if you dont speak chinese forget the tv you wont undertand a thing. The cleaner also doesn't speak a lick of english. The water is greenish so not good for swimming here. I would definitely not stay here again but this is some of the workers were pretty good. After the robbery we wanted to ask for our refund. The hotel owner tried to get us to pay the 15% transaction card fee prior to returning the remaining money from the nights we prepaid. We had to argue to get our money back. They did not offer us any restitution or sympathy instead told us they had security fat lot of good that was. Mind you there are only 6 huts to begin with not that many to secure. Needless to say we weren't impressed. They boasted about free wifi but there was none only in the "general" area and even then it sure didn't feel like it.

Awful food, service facilities were dirty, rude customer service no wifi, nothing like advertised, give tourism TONGA a VERY BAD NAME ! filthy rooms, poor plumbing, the customer service is shockling !

they have absolutely NO IDEA what service is ...!!!!! RUDE ARROGANT

Thank the good Lord for Joe's Place! We had a terrible experience at another hotel and Joe's Place saved the day! Very beautiful hotel, not run down at all, very clean and SUPER staff and management. My mum and I can't thank you enough.
