Just spent 8 nights at Sandy Beach, what a wonderful place for a holiday, the staff are brilliant, happy and helpful at all times. The Fale was perfect, going to sleep listening to the water lapping onto the sand is always delightful.  Jake the chef did a super job with yummy dinners every night, amazing considering the remoteness of  this location. Swimming with the humpback whales is an experience of life time, made all the better by informative guides who really knew their stuff.

Whale Swimming Holiday

Lovely location on the beach. You stay in your own little bungalow called a fale. The fales and property were immaculate. I arrived with three other women who were going whale swimming. It was nice to meet them for breakfast and dinner. Everyone was friendly. Our planners from Majestic Whale tours were there. We’d share all our water adventures of the  day and have some good laughs. They have a world class chef so we had fabulous dinners. I’m so glad I went to Ha’apai and this resort. it feels like you have the entire island to yourself. On Fri. the college students came in and prepared a feast and also did native dances. It was amazing! They also have kayaks and bikes.

Whales, good food and fun people

I confirmed flights on confirmation from Peta that accommodation was available at Sandy Beach.  I have now had no response to make payment and now have no where to stay and will have to cancel my flights at my expense.

Poor Service and communication

I have emailed, written, messaged, kindly written remarks on FB for months now.  I get that there was a volcanic eruption. They responded and said no problem since it would be at least another year and I have cancer.  I waited patiently. I contacted again and 'I'll do it tomorrow. My apologies'.  It's been another week and NOTHING. I even had my bank contact them with a direct link.  
I won't live to see next year.  $2000 is a lot of money to me and my family.  I would like to use it to take another trip before I DIE.  What does a person have to do????

Beautiful location, Fala (hut) on the beach, walk out the door swimming and snorkeling, surrounded by healthy coral reef, awesome food!  New owners Darren and Nina and family kind, warm, and gracious.  If you are looking for the peace, beauty, and restoration that the South Pacific can give you then you have found it.  They also offer many of the activities that larger resorts do (scuba diving, kayaking, deep sea fishing, etc) without the built up, rush, and commercialism that they do.  This is the first place we have ever visited that we've both committed to returning.  And near the top of our list.  Thank you Darren and Nina!  And Adam and Harriet.

The Best Ever

What a beautiful, serene paradise. Thoroughly enjoyed slowing down - flowing in Tongan time. It is fantastic that the beach is at your doorstep for swimming in crystal clear waters. Wonderful warm friendly staff ensured we were well looked after. Snorkelling was really enjoyable and the brilliant starry nights blew us away. A natural wonderland to reconnect to what's really important in life and just BE!

My husband and I recently stayed here for 8 nights as part of our trip with "Majestic Whale Encounters".

The accommodation is good, clean and comfy, but not 5 star.  However, it's what we expected.  So we were happy.  No complaints.  The bed was comfortable and we liked sleeping with the curtains open each night to hear the ocean.  There was plenty of hot water, which was good after being out on the water all day.  It is all about location, location, location!   The rooms are located right on the waters edge and the beach is glorious.

It is a lovely small, intimate resort.

We found the food good.  A good varied selection at breakfast and dinner was a choice of two entrees, three mains and house dessert.  And there were also options for vegetarians and other dietary requirements.

I know that Wi-Fi can be an important thing for some people and we found it fine.

The staff we interacted with were all good.  Polite and friendly.

Overall, we really liked the property and don't have anything to complain about.  But we are well travelled and are easy pleased.

Would I recommend the property?  Absolutely.

Lovely Location

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sandy Beach for just over a week in April 2019 and it was amazing! Ruth and Duncan were fantastic hosts and all the staff made our stay there super special. The food is amazing! Fresh seafood everyday and yummy cocktails in coconuts! The water is crystal clear which makes for incredible snorkeling experiences. We took the bikes for a ride into the closest town (about an hour one way) where we stocked up on some snacks and beer. They have kayaks available so definitely get out on those for a little adventure. We stayed over Easter so took a walk up to the local church on Easter Sunday - the singing was next level! We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend a week chilling and relaxing. Would 100% recommend staying here. We are already thinking about going back!

An amazing beach retreat!

Very good food everyday, very nice staff and services, beautiful view... and the most important is here is really a good place for swimming with whale and snorkeling at coral reef.

They have four boat for whale swimming and one bigger boat for diving, all the staff on boat are professional and experienced, so all these boat could cooperate to find whale and make sure everyone has enough time swimming with whales and take photos.

Just swimming from beach for 30 second, there are many very good coral reef with healthy corals, so basicly you could go snorkeling any time.

Good place for fun and underwater photography

Sandy Beach Resort is located on the tip of remote Foa Island and you wake each morning to the sound of waves lapping only metres from your room. Footsteps take you to a practically deserted white sand beach with miles and miles of clear turquoise water as far as the eye can see. The resort is run by Ruth and Duncan who ensure everything runs smoothly to make your stay comfortable, carefree and enjoyable.The rooms are individual bures/fales (ours was No 10 - HongoFulu!) with en-suite shower rooms and comfortable beds - very necessary after a long day whaleswimming. 
The bar is well stocked and attended by friendly staff while the catering is superb. We had delicious meals every day at the dining area which faced out onto the stunning view of the bay. There was always a choice including a vegetarian option. We enjoyed a cultural feast on the Friday night, followed by a performance by local young dancers from the nearby schools. If I had one suggestion it would be the streamlining of the breakfast. The waitresses wrote down every single item every time which was quite time-consuming. Perhaps there could be printed menus on which guests tick their choices (like you do for room service breakfast in many hotels.)  A hot water boiler at the tea and coffee station would also be a good idea as the flasks tended to cool down which was not good for tea and coffee. Otherwise, everything was great.
Amazingly, out there in the middle of nowhere, there is wifi too...somewhat slow and sometimes intermittent but nevertheless, it's there if you want it.
I'd highly recommend Sandy Beach Resort to anyone who would like to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spend a week in Paradise. Even if you were not there for the whaleswim, it would be lovely as the resort is beautiful and peaceful.
