A very basic Hotel.  I got a spacious room on the 4th floor @ CFA 45,000 / night including breakfast & taxes.  Had problems getting hot water in the bathroom.  Staff is friendly & helpful.  Restaurant serves lunch & breakfast but was closed when i went for dinner.  Occupancy seemed low.
Airport is a 15 minute drive.

An average Hotel in Lome, Togo

When travelling to Lagos I stayed one night in le Sphinx Hotel. 
The Location is good and the interior is well design with smart traditional Arts! 
A very Romantic Restaurant and Bar at the 7th or 8th floor with a good service!

I debated between giving this two or three stars, but the final judgment comes because of the director's attitude.
It seems that for every positive of this hotel, there is a negative of equal or greater weight.
Positives: nice appearance, large rooms, Air Conditioning worked all the time, good location, friendly staff, good breakfast, theoretically "good value for money"
Negatives: A/C - the thermostat didn't work, so it was either freezing (full blast) or boiling (turning it off). Despite looking clean, there were lots of cockroaches (I killed 4 in my room...); furniture and closets are starting to fall apart; toilet kept running and sink was clogged. No safe. Wifi that fluctuated from ok to non-existent all the time. 
Really big negatives:
1) I stayed on a Saturday night. A very popular open air bar/night club is located just next door and the music blasts all night.  I was on the "quiet" (other) side of the hotel, and still only finally got to sleep at 3 am due to the noise. I don't know if this is the case during the week, but obviously not something I enjoyed...
2) Staff are clearly not trusted or empowered by the management/direct. Two examples: I had to change rooms (twice) and the 2nd time was because the staff did not have access to a light bulb to change one that was not working. So, it was easier to have me change rooms than to replace a broken light bulb.
But the true outrage was this gem: I wanted to call a local restaurant (fixed line number). Since it was not possible to call outside from the room, I went to the reception. They told me that it was impossible to call an outside number from the reception!!! I asked "what if it were a hospital or a doctor?" They replied that it didn't matter, they couldn't make outside calls - but that the Director would get back to me on his return.  A half hour later, the (French) Director called me, explained he would make the call for me - and that outside calls from the reception were not allowed to "avoid abuse by the staff" (who are locals).  I find this both bad management (if you can't trust and empower your employees for local phone calls, you've got big problems...); and really bad for the hotel and its clients. If there were an emergency and the director were not around, this could be really dangerous. 
So, stay here, but with your eyes wide open. Literally, if you stay over the weekend!

Big potential. Big problems

Before I went to Lome (Togo) last month I had three hotels with good reviews on my list. Even though someone else reviewed an hotel does not mean I will like it. So I told my friends in Lome (Togo) to visit all the three Hotels one by one and select the best based on my preferences. i.e. Security, Wi-fi, Hygiene, Area, Hot water, break-fast, reasonable price, and air-condition.  

Unfortunately, they were not able to book any of the Hotel I selected for them simply because one was over-booked, , second was too far to Lome City and third was too dirty for their liking. Then they decided to search for a new hotel for me on their own which is when they came across HOTEL LE SPHINX in Lome central. This hotel was no where to be found online. Even if you search for it online now you will not be able to find them at all. 

HOTEL LE SPHINX LOME (TOGO) is one of the best unknown hotel in Lome (Togo) that tick all the boxes for me with excellent very friendly staff all round. I purposely left some of my belonging to test the cleaners but to my surprise nothing was taken. Very honest people

The hotel has it's own security personnel at the entrance of the building and the whole building is wired with a functional CCTV camera for the safety of everybody. 

I had a fantastic one week here, staff couldn't do enough for you, the room I stayed was huge. The Hotel met all my preferences mentioned above.  I would definitely recommend this hotel and would not even mind returning for another business trip in two years  again.
