This is a homestay in a developing country where accommodation costs tend toward the high end. That said, I had a perfectly lovely and comfortable stay here. Coffee was served every morning, along with a light breakfast. You're largely left to your own devices so if you require a lot of hand-holding this may not be the place for you, but when asked the host was quite helpful with suggestions for daytrips and how to make them happen. The location is also good (though note that it can be a tad difficult to find without Google maps or the help of a neighborhood child), a short walk from the coast, restaurants (local and more tourist-friendly), and Timor Plaza, where you can get a SIM card and great local dishes.

Simple but comfortable

Opportunistically came across this home stay for myself and my two daughters. 

The lack of respect for Timorese staff was embarrassing to witness. 

Morning breakfast didn’t happen, nor did the assistance to find the 0700 ferry. 

I’m sure blame will he laid at the feet of the staff and not the owner. The staff didn’t speak English, yet they were expected to understand English by the host. Embarrassing for myself and the staff. 

Agree with other negative posts. ☹️

A little bit of a mistake

I only stayed in one place, for one night, just to do a visa run from Indonesia. I was shocked at the price and what you actually get for it. I think there must - obviously - be two economies in Timor. Accommodation is almost First world prices in a very undeveloped third world country. I would wonder why anyone would even want to go to Timor, except of course unless it was forced - for work NGO stuff etc. My advice, go to Indonesia, a wonderful country with a vibrant culture and economy.


Why go to Timor anyway?

Hidden charges here, there and everywhere. The hosts thinks nothing of abusing her neighbours, serves breakfast when it suits, has no hot water in the inside shower, has Timorose children perform laundry duties without disclosing beforehand (laundry service is $4, only to find children hand-washing the clothes), has an apparent revolving door of people come in and out of the property, and lists no pets but then has pets of her own. Horrible. This review will be repeated on numerous websites to warn other travelers.

Avoid at all costs. Terrible experience and full of hidden charges.

The homestay is run by Meg, a friendly australian expat. The room and all other facilities were clean, but the room was very dark. Even during night time, it was still very hot, and the fan didn't make much of a difference. All in all, I did not have a good sleep. The location is ok, as long as you have a scooter or someone who travels with you, but I would not recommend to stay there as a single female girl, even though the house has a gate. It will take you a fair bit of walking to reach sights like the resistance Museum. Meg can organize a scooter and a driver, however, I found options to discover Timor that I thought worked better. When I made a booking, it said that Wifi is provided, but in fact it was not. You do have the opportunity to buy a sim card off her that allows you to use the internet.
It's just my own opinion, but unfortunately I did not feel comfortable staying there.
