132 reviews18yrs ago my boyfriend then, now husband, randomly picked Thara house to stay whilst we were backpacking the streets around Khao San area. Chose it mainly because it had an atm machine in the front, the lobby was lined with computers & internet and a nice new restaurant with attached access via lobby or street with AC. The food was excellent. 18yrs later not much has changed at all other than the restaurant is now a separate entity from hotel & the food isn't worth talking about. A grumpy loving aunty at reception with great English greeted us both then and now, decorations the same and the cheap and cheerful rooms still the same. Room is basic with great space and perfect to hang your hat after long hot days. Large bed, AC was great, our window overlooked alley of Muay Thai gym so it was always alive with activity below, tv with 4 channels (2 in English). Bathroom great, shower hit with good pressure, toilet was brilliant, ample storage space, 2 chairs and built-in bar leaner. Close to everything- Ferry, 7/11, bus stop across rd. Grand Palace, Fort, Nat museum, Nat theater, Royal fields, Khao San rd, food, bars, markets, massage etc... it is extremely touristy so expect all the touts. Hotel policy does not allow solicitation, hooligans, rowdiness or d-heads in general; great because my tolerance as I've aged has dropped immensely if not rested & this establishment is quiet, one of the main reasons I loved this place. The rooms are solid block walls with thick doors & security cams on every floor & the "Reception aunty" is not to be trifled with- Love it. Perfect for our needs, perfect for our budget and overall perfect for us and thats all that mattered.
