Baan Nan Hotel Nan Spent an lovely and interesting week here at the end of January and can not recommend this hotel highly enough. The suite, the staff, and the warm vibe here make Baan Nan Hotel the perfect place for me. Definitely worth making this your base for your travels in Nan. I booked a nice king suite up on the third floor and loved it (totally worth it). Two huge rooms, one like a living room with a nice big comfy sofa and coffee table. Lots of floor to ceiling glass so the place feels wide open. Its like a villa, very private and being up on on the third floor, your surrounded by treetops and city views. Wraparound balcony in the living room and a balcony off the bedroom, with a screened door so you can leave it open overnight without bugs getting in. My dream room. My suite really reminded of the villa I stayed in at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, with the greenery and super chill vibe. Amenities were great, two TVs, two desks and a very generous amount of bottled water, canned soda (delicious), and coffee service, as well as some tasty snacks, refilled daily. They take excellent care of their guests, their generosity in this regard was very classy. its in an excellent location in a nice quite neighborhood but less than a ten minute walk to the local market downtown (there’s actually two of them, kind of across the street from each other, one morning and one evening). And less than a twenty minute walk from your room will put you at the heart of life in Nan, Wat Phumin. ( or grab a GRAB) Across the street from the Wat you will find the wonderful Walking Street Weekend Night market, not to be missed. Breakfast here was excellent, buffet style. Two thai style dishes as well western food were available, as well as a delicious soup, sometimes two of them, in addition to freshly steamed rice. The staff were happy to prepare eggs for you anyway you liked and they had the most delicious bread for making toast to enjoy those eggs with. Yum yum. A very nice selection of fresh fruit as well as a delicious yogurt was a nice refresher between courses. The killer was a whole section of these beautiful tasty little desserts that I ate way too many of, ha ha. But I have to say that the coup de grace, the thing that made the breakfast here fantastic, was the coffee. Oh man, was that a good cup of joe. Solid, tasty and not bitter, just perfect. I was informed that the owners Khun P & Khun M had created their own house blend of two locally grown coffees. I downed a few cups of that heavenly brew I tell you. More importantly I have to speak of the hospitality of the staff, and especially of the proprietors of this fine establishment, Khun M & Khun P. Unfortunately, I found myself very violently ill from food poisoning after making the mistake of eating locally while on my road trip around the Nan mountains (highly recommended, but be very very careful what you eat if you choose to eat on the tour, I would suggest not eating anywhere but a 7-11). Three days of being laid up except to run for the bathroom, a pretty rough go to be honest. On the evening of the second day Khun P stopped by my room with some stuff to ease my misery after hearing from the staff I hadn’t attended breakfast for two days in a row. On the third day of this sickness I realized I probably needed medical care. I was fumbling around in the lobby of the hotel, half dead trying to book a cab when Khun P so kindly took pity on me and drove me to the hospital. I fully expected him to just drop me off as I’m sure he had plenty to do back at the hotel but he walked me in, parked his car and returned to be with me. I have to say Nan Hospital was excellent, with many kind helpful people working there and speaking very good English to which I have to give the greatest respect. While it was great to have English speaking staff help me navigate the process of getting treated, it was no substitute for have Khun P. translating for me. He stayed with me for the whole shebang, about five hours. Never once looked at his watch. Even more amazing, Khun M, showed up about forty minutes after I was registered and her and Khun P kept me in good spirits through the whole deal and confirmed all details with my doctor. I was really blessed to have these two kind very jai dee folks looking out for me with great compassion. Would never stay anywhere else in Nan, that’s for sure. Its like staying with family, better actually, ha ha ha. Highly recommended. As is Nan.
