Stunning from staff to location, price to peace of mind.

The owner has the biggest smile you’ll see and you can catch him at all hours being a general super dad not only to his baby boy but his guests. 

Highly recommend if you want somewhere central but an escape all the same!

Visited here a few days ago travelling with a small group of friends.
Where do I start? The staff are super friendly including their 2 awesome dogs.
We went with the double rooms with air con. I would highly recommend this as they most definitely have the most outstanding view. 
Swimming in the river was quite safe too. (Just watch the current and the odd monitor lizard)
Small shop just across the road with super friendly staff also.
Would definitely stay here again :)


I stayed in River Guest House for 5 nights. I had a great experience. The huts are on top of the river like old Thai style, so it's a cool experience. They are very basic, but also very cheap.  Because of it's location on the water there were some bugs at night, but that doesn't bother me. The owner was also really friendly and helpful, their dogs are sweet too. Good location, easy to walk into town and restaurants and such. I would gladly stay here again.

CHILLAX

Private rooms with option of air conditioning or fan, with private bathroom.

Guesthouse well set directly on the river Kwai, gives the visitor authentic experience of the Kanchanaburi and the jungle.

Easy access to city center or bus/train station.

Terrace has a very ambient and relaxed vibe (especially the ground seating mattresses, possible to spend hours on this comfortable seating) 

Staff is very friendly (almost as in the rest of entire Thailand), willing to help and suggest where and when to go to places.

Easy & convenient to rent scooters/mopeds directly from the guesthouse reception.

- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO RENT SCOOTERS IF YOU WANT TO GET AROUND FAST, EASY & CHEAP

IMPORTANT POINT (if you like coffee) ! ! ! You have to try the morning coffee, an absolute must !!! Also serve a large variety of breakfast

WiFi not always working perfectly, especially in the rooms.

The right atmosphere

This place was one of the first here in Kanchanaburi and did look like the pictures twenty-one years back. 
Sadly the place is tired and very shabby with rickety planks and faded facade. I know the owner Lurt well, and popped in to see him recently as he knew my mother who lived there at the guest house over 20 years back. As ever he was warm and friendly and remembered me so it pains me to write this, but the place is in desperate need of refurbishment and money spent on it. There are now plenty of other places that are better in appearance and are in just as a good a location. I would not stay here and stayed up the road for my trip to Kanchanaburi, the entrance is uninviting and looks like you are entering some Thai's garden not a guest house. As ever on this road there are naughty dogs who kick off at night. the council really should shoot them as they are a pest and do not help bring in tourists to the area. KOh Samui had a similar problem way back, but they now round up stray dogs and deal with them. 
For a view on the river overlooking the WAT, you cannot beat this place but as a place to stay you can do better. Sorry Lurt, spend some serious money and do the place up.
