Koh Wai Beach Resort

We were looking for a remote place, as far away as possible from the tourists hordes as humanely possible. We found, quite by accident, this resort on line. We decided to spend four days there. There were four of us, My wife, daughter, myself and a friend. The first obstacle, after finding the resort, is to get there. Once you have found the right pier, you will take a boat that will take you to the island. Most of the resorts are on the same side of the island and the coral reef is there also. That means that day tripper boats come to the North side all day and that the peacefulness is not of the greater magnitude! But, thankfully, the Koh Wai beach resort is isolated on the south side. so you will escape the tourist boats and scuba enthusiasts. Prefer the fast boat to cross (45 minutes crossing instead of two hours on the slow boat). You will change boats at one of the Koh Wai piers. The resort will send their fishing boat or their long tail canoe to pick you up. After another 20 minutes you will arrive in a paradisiac and secluded resort. If you are looking for luxury holidays with many employees at your beck and call, you should not be here. If you are looking for a holiday spot that the Thai people enjoy and visit often, then you are at the right place. There are different sorts of bungalows that bring all the comfort needed (including air conditioning, very welcome at night). The staff members are dedicated to help you to organize any activity, book boat passages to other islands where you can scuba dive or just enjoy a change of scenery. There are coast rails and a semi mountainous trek that takes you to the other side of the islands where you can sample different beach restaurants. Do where closed shoes to take these trails! Enjoy fishing from the rocks or the pier and eat the fish or squid that you have managed to take out of the sea (actually they are all begging to jump into your plate! My daughter was elated by the ease with which she could pass for a pro fisherman!) The food is very good, a mix traditional Thai food and western options (very welcome for the kids when they need a break from the spicy food). The menu might not be as extensive as in a resort in Phuket or Pattaya, but, IMHO, is really great and abundant. You have to understand that what is cooked here and not coming from the sea, comes from the mainland. The team is very welcoming and everybody makes you feel that they really care about your holidays being a success. I highly recommend this resort if you want to relax, kick back, forget about emails and telephone and enjoy the scenery with your family.
