Funky Box Hostel

We stayed at the funky box, like everyone else, before heading to the slow boat to Luang Prabang. Pretty much everyone that stays in Chiang Khong is here because they are on the way to Laos. We opted to travel to Laos on the more luxurious boat rather than the jammed packed cheap bus style option! ;-) because of this we found ourselves with a couple of days now in Chiang khong. But the hospitality of the owners at funky box made it worthwhile! They offered assistance with things to do. We did a trek/hike one day to secret waterfall. That was a great walk with lunch provided and another day one of the owners drove us to the national park with a kayak and fishing rod. We spent a couple of leisurely hours paddling the massive lake before the owner came back to pick us up. At night they do great home cooked meals. Belgium stew was great. So were the burgers! Actually so was the fish!! The bar was tendered by the other owner and both made the atmosphere in the bar at night a lot of fun. It was lively, they were interactive and everyone was having a good time. Rooms were clean. Bathroom basic but clean. Overall a great stay and worth spending an extra day or 2!
