9 reviewsI came from Ubon on a bus and needed a place to stay over night, as I intended to travel onward the next day. I needed a place centrally located. The Toonkon Hotel, where I prebooked a room turned out to be just around the corner from the Nakhon Chai Air bus stand in town (NCA is the best bus company in Thailand). I was tremendously surprised to see the quality of the room when I first saw it. The fotos above depict it realistically. I don't know what more I could have wished for. If the budget hotels in Switzerland (where I am from) were this good, the hospitality industry there could be really proud. And all this for just 500 baht. (Less than US$15). Really amazing. It was a Sunday evening and a student was at the reception who did not speak much English - but we managed anyhow with the help of a friendly resident. I learnt that this is actually mostly a residential place. I will definitely stay there again when I pass through town. Next day I went to Kaeng Khro on a local bus (on my way to Wat Pa Sukato at Tha Mafai Wan, a famous forest monastery for a unique type of meditation in the tradition of Luang Phor Teean), and I was guided well to find that local bus stop in Chaiyaphum city.
