Kali Inn Hostel

This is a friendly and very clean hostel in a central location (2 minutes walk to the subway), a washing machine (the clothing will dry in 2 hours because Taiwan is very hot) and a nice communal room. Most of the staff do not know any English (use Google translate or wait for the main office ours). However, the hotel is very noisy due to the air conditioning.

Note that in Taiwan (like in China) hotel and hostel rooms are typically tiny (about half the size of European and a quarter the size of American rooms) and very sparsely furnitured (typically a bed and a cloth hanger and in Business hotels a desk and a chair) - the bed typically just fits in the room. This is just the way it is and one of the reasons why rooms are cheaper than in most European and American cities, so travel lightly (because heavy luggage will stuff your room) and do not complain.

Comfortable but very noisy

It was my first time to travel solo and my first time to stay at a hostel. I followed the directions I saw in AirBnB but ended up confusing myself. So, a tip for future guests, don't take exit 1 of the MRT. Ask around for the exit that faces Longshan Temple DIRECTLY, then turn right, walk straight towards Bopiliao, and the next block you should see a 7eleven. Right next to it is Kali Inn.

I got there early (10am) and they let me store my luggage even though check in isn't until 3pm, they even kept my laptop safe in their office. I proceeded to explore Taipei for the whole day. It was easy to go around because the MRT is just about 5-8 minutes away. Another tip: go to Kali Inn early if you want the bottom bunk beds :) 

The room was tidy, though the bed isn't made when you get there. You'll have to make it yourself, but the mattress is clean and so are the pillow and beddings. The blanket is thick and cozy.

The living area is awesome. It felt just like home. The big bear was definitely good company. Unfortunately, when I stayed there, most of the guests were very old, so there wasn't much interaction. 

The shower rooms and toilets could be cleaner and they could definitely smell better. I think they charge for towel rentals. There was also a washing machine which is good for guests who will stay long.

Overall, it was a great overnight stay here in Kali Inn. I didn't get the whole hostel experience where you get to meet people from another country but that's ok. The staff were really kind (they even let me print out my boarding pass!) and the introduction/tour around the hostel was very thorough. I just wish there was a person to help bring up the luggages. I will recommend this place to friends. Thank you, Kali Inn!

Near the MRT, Felt Like Home

At the 2nd floors, no elevator but don't worry, host will help you to bring your luggage up. Room, bed, shower, toilet are all new and clean. Hosts are friendly and pretty. Breakfast, 24hrs cozy public area, free locker, all perfect! My favorite part is the location. Right next to the  top 3 oldest historical area in Taiwan. You could enjoy the old temples, old buildings and traditional foods here. I had great time even its actually a business trip for me. Will definitely come back if I got chance.

This hostel is excellent, the staff are very friendly and happy to help. There are big lockers in the bedrooms and the communal area is a great place to meet others and make tea or coffee. The hostel is in a very convenient location to access the mrt beside Longshan temple. I really enjoyed my time there. It was definitely a very good choice and I will be back again.

Like a second home

I stayed three nights here, my first three nights ever in Taiwan. I arrived too early (7am) and no one was there to open the gate for me so I took the time to explore the neighbourhood (which is great if you love culture). Even without a prior booking, they let me check-in at 930am - and allowed me to use the facilities already!

We even had a Halloween party with games and some snacks, and it just really helped us guests get to know each other better and experience Taiwanese hospitality more. The facilities are great, and the rooms are comfortable. Wi-Fi was also pretty good when I was there.

All in all, one of the best hostels I've stayed in. I'll be back!
