Shihlin Service Apartment

If visiting the Shilin night market is your main reason for visiting Taipei, this is a great place to establish your home base. The hotel is located on a quiet alley a few minutes walk from both the market and the Shilin subway station. It's not luxurious by any standard. The rooms are small and the walls are thin - I could hear the shower in the next room. And different rooms have different features. My room had a desk while my friend's room had a cupboard instead. Also, the rooms don't have windows although that seems to be normal for cheaper hotels in Taipei. That said, the staff were accommodating and helpful, and the A/C and hot water worked just fine. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to sleep that puts you in the heart of Shilin, this place is perfectly adequate. Just remember to bring earplugs.
