I recommend you to stay at this hotel.First, I was so touched by their quality of services. They were paying attention to custmers. They informed us on time on the phone to come for breakfast. (Breakfast was nice enough too.)  Second, everything in the facility was clean and well organized in spite of its oldness, public spa was convienient and very nice too :))

We were so pleasantly surprised by our stay here! Our room had its own hot springs cool and hot tubs, in front of a leafy green window overlooking the river. Just like the photo! The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable (a welcome change after 4 nights of a rock hard mattress in Taipei) and the bedding was high quality. The room was clean and tidy.For breakfast you have a choice between a dumplings/xiao long bao box, and a semi western-semi Asian box that has omelette, fruit, chicken, pickles, rice congee and a few other items. The day before you tell the front desk what time you want breakfast, and they call you the next morning around 10 minutes before that time to let you know it’s ready.  So I recommend being realistic about what time you want to eat, so that your food doesn’t get cold. I found the variety of delights in the box quite charming, and the tables are situated along the river which is stunning.

Absolutely brilliant hotel. Genuinely friendly, helpful staff who spoke English, lovely tatami room overlooking the hills, and a superb hotspring spa downstairs. Spa so relaxing I fell asleep on the balcony overlooking the river.  Very good breakfast. 800m walk into town along the road. Only minor complaint was that the room aircon wasn't very effective. Would definitely come back. Loads to do in the area. 

Wonderful place

Good public spa pools and facilities.  Room pool was also very good.  Staff are very friendly and helpful.  Great river view.  Great worth of money.

Pros - The room was spacious and the hot springs bath was excellent. The view from the room is spectacular, and private. The breakfast food was okay, but they were generous with their portions and their coffee.Cons - a 10 minute walk to town without many sidewalks.

Quality Hot Springs Stay

It’s located one of the most scenic areas.  The room is pretty spacious.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.  Breakfast, even with limited selections, is done well.  The public hot spring spa is quite nice.

Excellent value for the money

Room charge is very reasonable to stay, compare with hotels or resorts in this area.

I book a private bath and stay one night on 25 Dec 2019. Hotel is quite far from the old street which takes about 20 minutes walk. Room condition is NG from which the paint on wall is pell off and is dusty on floor. Room is located at ground floor which is close to the road to hotel car park that reduce privacy. Most worse is the bath had no hot water in the morning. Maybe public bath is better.

It was good value for money, staff was friendly, and room / common areas were clean.

We were considering between Volando Urai the most famous 5-star hotel which was 200metres away and this hotel, but our desire for two double beds in a room made us choose this one.

We loved it for so many reasons:
1. This family room was humongous! Both beds where king beds and they even provided extra beddings in their four-panel huge wardrobe, which I presume is for any extra guests who will be sleeping on the floors, which I'm sure with that space can accommodate another four persons at least.

2. The 1.5-metre bath comes with hot spring and all four of us fit in with room to spare. A bit of casual chat with the locals and research made us aware that the water here is pH-neutral sodium bicarb and carbonic, thus good for skin revitalization as compared to those at Beitou which are sulphurized thus better for dry/itchy skin. We loved how nature provides different 'hot springs' for different health purposes! We did not use the public bath at all since we could have our 'beauty soaks' right in our room!

3. Our room was obviously the "VIP room" of this hotel since it had its own private stairs and landing, unlike the other rooms in this hotel with two wings. It is also right above the breakfast area and reception making it easy for us to request for help/services. This is a great tip for all our travels --- get the best room at cheaper hotels, you'll be surprised what a bargain and much better service and value-for-money you'll be getting. It's cheaper YET way better then an average room at the top hotel.

4. This room is on the side that has mountain and 'river' view. Waking up every morning to the cool mountain breeze and birds chirping was what a mountain holiday should be like. Well as for the 'river' view, since the dam was built RIGHT BESIDE this hotel, the river kind of dried up but you could still see a little of the blue carbonized hotspring water and the beautiful rock formations beneath it. Then again, that could also be one of the reasons why Volando just 200metres away could charge way higher for a view of the river (behind the dam and NOT dried up).

5. 7-11 was a 5-minute stroll away and it is a 20-minute uphill walk to the famous old street where you can find the creator of Taiwanese sausages. Or you could take a 5-minute public bus ride up which we did from diagonally opposite our hotel's lobby. Cutting through the Old street got us to the oldest cable car and Yun Hsien amusement park built in 1970s in Taiwan. More on those in other reviews.
