Pros: friendliness of the owners, although they do not speak English (you can speak by phone or e-mail in English with Rebecca who can help you if needed). 

The food - very tasty and diverse; price of dinner was very reasonable at TND 250. 

Size of the room, comfortable bed. Functional bathroom. 

You can sit with the host and try their oolong tea - and off course you can buy it onsite. 

Location is OK, but not in the center of the village. Good starting point for exploring the nearby trails (in my opinion you need to have a car in Alishan to fully appreciate it). 

Value for money given my general feeling that accomodation prices in Alishan tend to be high.

Cons: the decor of the room is non-existent - some photos or paintings would bring a lot of ambience. Lack of shelves or wardrobe (but that's my general remark to most of accommodation in Taiwan).

Simple, but very good place in Ruili

Well, you should have your own (rental) car as the place is a bit far from everything. So, location or room would just get "Average" but the owners (family of three) made it up for. Home made food, and while having dinner the father (owner) joined and shared his home made liquor with us and the daughter brought us to see fireflies, the area is renowned for. This is where the "Very Good" is coming from.

It's a family place

There are other nicer looking places in Rueili and maybe even for lower prices. Hosts seem to be rather opportunistic about maximizing their gains at every chance. No noise isolation as room doors are just a thin piece of metal. We had a night with the house full of noisy young people laughter out loud till 2 am. Also with regards to meals, we think they charge everybody the same price but some tables get more dishes than others. 
I am sure other places in the area would easily be nicer. 

Regret choosing here

The hotel owners - husband and wife - do not know a word of English, so you will find it very difficult to explain your request or desire, ask about local attractions or ask for advice. Their daughter, who is constantly working, but who only needs to contact you by phone, makes it a little easier. The rooms are modest, not original, with a minimum of furniture (there will be no lunch in the room).

The service leaves you wanting the best.

The hosts drove us to trails around the area and picked us up when we were finished. At night we were served home cooked meals, which was such a pleasant change and in the morning he drove us out to see the sunrise. There was a lot less people as well compared to the Chushan sunrise at Alishan. Really, really friendly, made us feel so much at home and we'd sit down and drink tea for hours after breakfast and dinner! Only regret is that we didn't stay long enough for him to show us around his tea plantation and his tea process. Also if Rebecca is not there, her parents do not speak English, but if you're okay with sign language and hand gestures then this is the place for you :)

Pretty nice place

We arrived to a family welcome, tea and a meal in the traditional style followed by clean good standard rooms, with wifi and tv if needed. Hot water and cups are on the landing (I bet you packed the odd tea bag).... The following morning, the balcony views,  (try to get these rooms), are simply splendid. The views over the valley as the sun rises over the peaks are superb. Go down for breakfast, again provided in Taiwanese fashion and content.... and more tea grown on the terraces surrounding the house. It's just splendid and yes, I know, I'm repeating myself - and still smiling as I remember the lovely people we met.

You just feel so at home.

The B&B's operators are very friendly and helpful. The B&B is located in the middle of a beautiful landscape of teah mountains and bamboo forests, but not easily accessible by public transport. We took the Alishan railway to the nearby train station and were picked up by the B&B. The area has many newly built beautiful hiking trails and in the spring you can even watch the fireflies by the river, which is very impressive. The dinner and breakfast is typically Taiwanese and very tasty and cooked by the operators themselves, who make their own very good oolong tea, you can also buy local and savory.

Nice homestay in the midst of beautiful tea plantations

Stayed one night with family and friends at this B&B. Location is splendid, surrounded by mountains, bamboo forests and tea plantations. The B&B is operated by the owner and his daughter who speaks excellent English. The place is simple but the friendliness and of the people there makes you feel welcome and at home. Rooms are spacious and clean with large beds. The only drawback is that they don't provide bath towels but only small face towels. For people like us who come from overseas and with limited luggage space this is a bit inconvenient. The food served for dinner and breakfast was fresh, tasty, homemade, warming for body and soul. A nice place that I definitely recommend to anyone wanting to go off the beaten tracks in a wonderful mountain landscape in Taiwan. Wifi is provided for free but as for the TV channels, reception is not excellent due to the remoteness of the location.

A service that comes from the heart and makes you feel at home

Every day the host held a tea ceremony for all the guests. Here we spent an unforgettable 3 days. The owners arranged a transfer from Chiayi (for an extra fee), on the way from Chiayi brought us to the waterfall. They helped organize our time, offered us remarkable excursions. With their help we visited all the sights of the area of Ruili (Ruili)  this is a tea plantation and production of tea, we tasted green tea, we had a lunch, we stayed at the hotel for one night, we had an extra 200 dollars. We would have been able to experience this hotel together with a hundred people.
