Pension Sonnenberg

The hotel is located about a 30 minute hike up a narrow partially paved road. If you are arriving with luggage, contact Chris, owner of the hotel and for a small fee he will pick you up. It’ll be worth it as you can’t haul a suitcase up there yourself. But once you are there, Chris creates a relaxing atmosphere, where all of the guests and sit outside among the wild flowers and cows (with bells) and relax and have a drink. All is very informal and relaxing. When hiking, there are many trails that criss cross the hills behind the hotel. The walk to the tram to the Schilthorn is about 30 minutes away. If the walk uphill is too much, the Allmendhubel is a funicular that takes you from the town of Murren up to the hillside for a small cost. The food at the Sonnenberg is fantastic. The chef is Italian, and the dishes are spectacular. We are vegan and still have a wonderful pasta dish one night, and a large colorful salad and minestrone the other night. I am sure he would have been happy to make us something had he known of our preferences, but the menu was varied enough to please us. Chris played host, waiter, and guide for us during our stay with suggestions of hikes to take and things to do and see.
