Hotel-Restaurant Waldrand

The Waldron is run by Karin and Markus. You couldn't wish to find more friendly, helpful, efficient hosts anywhere! Karin is front of house, and housekeeper. Markus is the chef and he cooks with as much local produce as he can. It's all delicious. Our room was large but felt cosy due to the rustic decoration. We had a balcony with table and chairs, and a breath taking view of the snow capped mountains. The bathroom was adequate. Karin was a delight. She went the extra mile with everything she did for us.The little extra touches were really appreciated. Breakfast was very good. Not often are you offered an egg done anyway you like for continental breakfast. Plus meats and cheese with the usual croissants and bread. The hotel is situated in a normal working village on the mountain. To reach it you have to drive through a single track 3/4 mile long corkscrew tunnel! Lauterbrunnen is a 10 minute drive away, or a 50 minute walk through the countryside, or there is a mini bus service. There is ample free parking at the hotel whereas in Lauterbrunnen it 's very expensive in the public car parks and hotels have very little parking available to them. However Lauterbrunnen is a nice little town with easy access to all the tourist attractions. We wish that we could have stayed longer than 3 days. Thanks Karin and Markus. xx from Samantha too! lol
