We had room for 4 people. It was pretty big, like two connected small rooms. Very clean bathroom. The area around is nice. And the views from restsurant are amasing.However we supposed to have dinner included (at least it was written on the booking), but when we arrived - we were told that only breakfast is provided. In the checkout they could not find our booking number for long. The owner was friendly ofcourse, but still, it messed up the stay a bit.Also, hotel is pretty dated, and tv in the room is from 90s. The room costed 200 euros for us, whish is very overpriced in this case.

Overpriced basic stay in the mountains.

Hotel Kistenpass appears somewhat out of place in the pretty village of Brigels, being one of the very few flat-roofed (and tall) buildings among  the more traditional architecture around it.   It is very near the entrance to the town, unmissable as you drive up from the valley, and there is outside parking around the back, along with ski room and somewhat hidden back entrance.
The rooms were clean and pleasant, if somewhat dated  (old style telephones and TVs).  Our rooms were on the street side which was not a big issue as there was not a great deal of traffic.  The heating could not be altered however, and we had to keep the window open to ensure the room was cool enough to sleep.  Rooms at the back of the hotel cost more but you have a valley view and no road.  From the website it would appear that some rooms have been modernised, probably this is being done in stages.
We had half-board.  Dinner was a set menu - Asian style., no choice.  Cooking was good but portions were somewhat on the small side if you have big eaters in your family.  Better to go for the a-la-carte as the portions looked considerably bigger.  Breakfast was self-service with very fresh bread, rolls, hams, cheese, etc.

A convenient overnight stop before skiing in Brigels

Brigels is located at the end of the world, a nightmare to get to by public transport, nevertheless it is worth the travel. The Hotel Kistenpass is located just at the beginning of the village with a stunning view over the valley - only this is worth having a drink in the restaurant. The Hotel has seen better days and needs refurbishment. Otherwise I can not complain.

Beautiful view, nice villiage, nice staff, but hotel needs some work...

It is a truth that hotels in this class have a very difficult life, limited refurbishment capabilities, difficult market situation, a struggle. Given these facts and taken that into account one would expect absolutely exceptional service (and I don't mean 5* and do not compare). This expectation could not be matched during our visit. Food was comparably ok, rooms as well. So my recommendation to the hotel would be to get service right.

Some good things, some below average

We enjoyed a weekend in Kistenpass and liked the amenities and straightforward problemsolving attitude. Fitout, rooms are not the newest and the place is not in the centre of a holiday region but a nice and calm place in a lovely village with great scenery.

Standard hotel experience, good for groups

To start with the few positive points: The welcome was friendly (but the attitude changed later), and the breakfast was very good. 
When I arrived in the afternoon without having booked, the hotel was still closed. So, I checked on booking.com which said that it had only one single room left for CHF 60. I looked up the phone number on the Internet and called the hotel. It was confirmed to me that the room was still free. When I asked for the price, he said it was CHF 75. I asked for the reason for the different price, and he answered that the room for CHF 60 wasn't free anymore. 
The next morning, the same portal still showed only one available room in the hotel for CHF 60. The photos looked exactly like the room I had stayed in: a room with a single bed and a small balcony with a view on the mountains. So, when the hotel manager gave me a bill of CHF 75, I asked him again for the reason and showed him the room offered on the portal. He said that the room for CHF 60 was a room with a double bed for one person which wasn't free. I asked him why a room with a double bed was cheaper than a room with a single bed. He then said that the room for CHF 60 was a room with a single bed on a lower floor without a balcony, contradicting himself to what he had just said a moment earlier. When I asked him why the information on the portal was different, he only answered evasively. The hotel didn't seem fully occupied at all (which other reviewers here have noticed too). 
Furthermore, the heating in the room was turned off all the time. I woke up during the night and couldn't get back to sleep because I felt cold. I couldn't even find a blanket in the room, which is normal in almost all hotels I've stayed in so far. According to the thermometers in the village, the outside temperature was 7 °C during the day and 3° in the evening. When I told the manager this in the morning, he asked me why I hadn't said anything in the evening when he had asked me if everything was ok, and said that there were radiators on another floor. He never apologised and made it sound like it was my fault. In the evening, I had already noticed that it was a bit cold, but I didn't expect the heating to stay off all night and the room to get that cold. Nevertheless, I decided to remain polite and said good bye to him when leaving, but he didn't give me any reply. 
I was quite shocked by this attitude which I have never experienced in any other hotel so far. 
In a reply to an unhappy reviewer on here, the hotel manager complains that customers use this platform to communicate their displeasure instead of contacting their customer service in order to find a solution. Also for this reason, I wrote him a letter (in German, one of his native languages) in which I described what I experienced during my stay. I haven't received a reply in four months. This is why I'm writing this review now.
