Luckily we stayed here for one night. It looks like a hotel for hours. Room and bathroom are very simple. The terrace faced the back of a shopping mall and a camper stop. Breakfast acceptable. By our standards, barely acceptable just for one night's drive. In the room there were only two electrical outlets. There are no mosquitoes in the windows.

We expected better.

Went on a brief xmas shopping spree to Sweden. We decided to stay the night at Nordby Hotel, something we regretted quite quickly . I could have overlooked low quality to mediocre food, poor maintenance, not having dealt with snow and ice on the pathways and quite a few other flaws if it had not been for our little incident. We checked in, had two rooms booked, paid an got our keys. About one and a half hour later we went to the restaurant (more of a roadside diner/ cafe) to catch some grub. Food was mediocre at best, but pretty cheap. 

Upon returning  to our rooms, our key to the double room did  not work.  We were then approached by a member of the hotel staff and two guests who demanded to know who we were and what we were doing there. We were told we were not supposed to be there by the staff  member, quite a strange thing to say as it was another member of the hotel staff, who issued our room keys. We were asked to follow all 3 of them to the reception to sort matters out. At the reception we were told that the couple accompanying the hotel guy, had made a specific request for the room we had gotten a few hours earlier. Not only had the staff then, without trying to contact us in any way, cancelled our key, but they had issued new keys to the couple claiming to have requested that specific room. Thereby giving them unlimited access to our luggage and belongings. We thought our belongings were safe,  locked away, in a room we already had paid for. The staff member did not tell us about that at all, but the other couple admitted to having locked themselves into the room and seen  our stuff. We were at our room until we went to the restaurant next to the reception area, and the staff could easily have knocked on our door or approached us in the restaurant to solve the problem.  If they lack a system to see what rooms and keys are in use, they do have a serious problem. We were given no other option than moving to a room of lesser standard, without a deduction in price. The only compensation they wanted to offer, was a few soft drinks. This is so unprofessional it is kinda scary. They had every chance to fix their fault by approaching us BEFORE canceling our key and giving another couple access to our room, they chose not to. It is not so much the issue of having to move, moving to a room of lesser standard or even the lack of a discount. It is about the hotel’s and their staff’s total disrespect of our privacy and the right not to have strangers  given the possibility to snoop around and access your belongings. 

If you’re ever in Strömstad, stay away from this sad excuse of a hotel, you are way better of sleeping in your car, setting up a tent, knocking on a strangers door or crashing under a bridge. It says hotel on the sign, motel on the bill, yet the service level, the security and the overall standards are put to shame by most hostels. It is not worth your money and they certainly do not value or even deserve your business.

Nordby hotel,  stay away, stay far, far away…..

It was better than I thought it was going to be. The building are pretty old but rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. The beds are comfortable enough and the hot water comes straight away. I’d maybe upgrade the showerheads. Breakfast was above average. Good quality muesli and plenty of yogurt to choose from. Fresh bread. Plenty of bacon, meat balls and fried eggs, not just scrambled.

Better than expected.

Traveling from Denmark to Norway,  so had a stop over here , friendly close to fuel shops etc nice big room it could do with a little TLC but it's not bad , breakfast was very good, I'd recommend it for a short stay , definitely

Great hotel. Very quiet. Perfect for Fredrikstad Cup. Clean & tidy, wide choice for breakfast. Definitely recommend.

Great little hotel.

Good and nice hotel that is strategically well located when traveling on the Norwegian/ Swedish border. Nice staff. The hotel needs refurbishment and especially the bathroom is a bit unhygienic. Otherwise, we thrive in the hotel and returns year after year.

Ok. hotel, great location for shopping & further travel

Rather than a motel than a hotel, this establishment is located in the last Swedish town on the Norwegian road. Many but somewhat defrauded rooms, especially the bathrooms.

Motel for one night stand

Ended there almost by mistake, anyway it is a nice stopover non your way in (or out) of Norway.
Attached to the nearby shopping center with a full choice of restaurants and shops.
Very friendly and clean, also simple but quiet and unpretending.
