Cool and nice place to stay. If you like authentic, wooden and cozy hotels. Helpful staff who gave us advices about cross country trails. There is a fire place in restaurant and really good food, we had a ribs and pizza.

We were given an upgrade to a more suitable family room (very thankful for that!) upon realising that we had probably booked to small a room for our family of 5. 

Our room (15) had a view of the end of the ski slope, the road and part of the railway track, which I found rather charming, especially as everything was snow-covered. And although we could hear a little of the noise from the disco on Saturday night, it was minimal and not an issue. No complaints about train noise either. The bathroom was not fancy but the shower was good, the towel rack was heated, the toilet seat was new. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate + kettle are available in the hallway.

If you're expecting Scandic Hotel facilities (typical contemporary Scandinavian style with all mod cons), you will be disappointed. If you're expecting a standard hostel, you should be pleasantly surprised. The building itself is old and the hotel has been running since the 1800s, so you can expect the odd cold draft in the corridors (not that you'll spend much time there!) and eclectic decor/interior design/renovation work, but the hotel is comfortable. And if it's minus 15°C outside, you'll definitely be cosy indoors. 

The breakfast was generous for a place of this size/type (and the fact that we were the only breakfast guests on one of the days!). We were surprised by the dinner menu that contained great kid's selections (of generous portion sizes) and really good vegetarian options too. The veggie burger and the risotto were great. And the service was good too. We were very happy we chose to eat meals in the restaurant and the children enjoyed them too. 

If you're expectations of the experience of being in Storlien are on par with what is actually on offer, you'll probably be happy here. No complaints from us. We'd stay again!

*A note if traveling with kids: there are portable heating elements in the rooms which are not kid friendly at all, though they do a great job keeping the room warm. We sectioned off the corner of the room (by using the coffee tables) where the heater was located to keep our baby away, but this is something to be aware of.

I stayed for one night as a stopover on the way to Åre. It is actually on the station platform and is a quaint old station hotel. I would recommend it but not if you want something upmarket. There is a reason it describes itself as a hostel because it hasn't been renovated. That didn't bother me and I enjoyed my stay. It has a nice bar and restaurant which were very friendly. Only downside that other trip advisors warned about is the weekend disco which went on into the wee small hours. Good value.

Very well situated directly at the railway station in Storlien. The hotel is old and could need some renovation, but the overall impression is very positive. Personal and friendly staff, big room, nice restaurant. We stayed for six nights and one of the last mornings the breakfast room didn't open, so we got no breakfast. When we came baack in the afternoon we were told that the person who was supposed to do the breakfast had got ill, that is of course something that can happen. We dined at the hotel that night, and when we was going to pay they said we didn't have to pay the dinner cause we got no breakfast. That is really good service. I really recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to hike in the Swedish mountains.

Well. This "ski lodge" is situated next to the rail way station. I think the station master used to live upstairs in what they now call a suite with a kitchen and fridge. But where are the cooking utensils? Where are the plates? Where are the serving dishes? Why was the fridge empty? Where are the towels? Where is the toilet paper? Why did the electricity fail whilst I was dispensing myself? I became rather amusing. But I gather since blind people can use a WC, than so could I Success! Why there is a flee ridden cows hide as the main floor view, is beyond my belief.Downstairs in the bar, I asked for two beers and two scotch whiskys. The poor lad first started with Jameson Bourbon. I said. this is not a whisky from Scotland, rather som concoction from the US. He the preceeded with Jameson from Ireland: I said. :This is not whisky from Scotland. I tried to explain to him the difference with brand names Whisky and Whiskey. I did not hav a clue.Poor scary lad. I laid all my wrath onto him, especially after I asked for two half liter is lager, and he served New Castle Brown Ale.
I said to my uncle: Lets F... off. So we did. But by all means: If you want to see Sweden at its worst, Go to Storlien Le Ski Lodge.
One more remark: The toilets down in the "barbecue room" consist of one room with three toilets next to each other in the same romm. That is not something I enjoy doing in public. Be ware!

Very bizarre place

On our way to Åre we stopped for a coffee which turned into a lunch. the coffee was OK, but the rest not. Very simple buffet, tasteless, few choices, why don't the management put more effort and pride into what they are offering?
