Abisko Mountain Lodge

We stay here for tonight and with her and Happy! He essentially located to all the activities which we partake in including snowmobiling and ice fishing. We enjoyed our time very much and will definitely come back again if  in the area. They have a wonderful restaurant. Excellent food attached.

We stayed in a Superior room which was lovely. There was a large clean bathroom and two nice chairs to relax in. Amenities like bathrobes and indoor shoes were provided. The bar area with a fire was delightful to relax in after a hike and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed much longer!

The staff here are amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Our tour company had made a mistake, and booked us activities 2.5km away, with no way of us getting there on foot. The manager very generously rearranged his schedule so he could take us and pick us up, and never made us feel like an inconvenience,  even though I'm sure we were! 
The rooms were small but adequate, and the free daily sauna was a bonus. The brasserie serves excellent food.
Highly recommended,  we'd love to stay here again if we were in the area. A massive thankyou to Nik and all the staff for being so amazing!

It begins and ends with the staff who were all so friendly and helpful; whilst this proved a pretty much universal experience during our time in Sweden, still I must praise them, they were fantastic (even if Dick did suggest I might like a tent instead when we checked in!)

We had a deluxe room which was spacious but still cosy and with a large bathroom with heated flooring and walk in shower. Staying only 3 nights we didn't request housekeeping though you can have the room cleaned daily if you wish.

In a remote location, never certain where your next meal might be coming from, it pays to book in advance, we had the soup lunch on arrival and the day we left and took a generous packed lunch out one day. A package is prepared with fruit, pastry, drink and chocolate and left on the counter in the restaurant to collect, you then make up sandwiches/rolls from the breakfast buffet to take with you. The breakfast is great, with a wide selection of food to choose from. I loved kicking off with a ginger shot followed by some porridge with lingonberries then maybe some meats/cheese/eggs with sourdough bread. All washed down with good strong coffee (of course)!

Dinner is as good as you will have read, if not better, the starters especially are exquisite, I know there is a new chef (as of January 2025) so expect changes but if available I recommend the Arctic char, the moose tartare and the Eldost waffle. 

There is a bar/lounge area with log burner giving off a cosy glow, it can get busy with people and luggage waiting before/after checking in/out but we always found a seat. There is a great choice of local beers and of course, being a restaurant too, a substantial wine list. As a refreshing change from the UK, it was great to see Cava instead of the ubiquitous fizzy pop of Prosecco.

If, like we were, you are in search of the Northern Lights, step outside late at night and wander 100m or so up to the helicopter pad for views of an amazing night sky, we were fortunate to be there when the planets were aligning (literally) and shining bright amongst so, so many stars. We spent a good hour and a half watching the lights dancing across the sky.

We travelled by overnight sleeper train from Stockholm, it's a 5 minute walk from the station to the Lodge. NB there are two stations, some people make the mistake of getting off at the wrong one apparently, though usually it's those wanting the Turistation getting off too soon.

I said it ends with the staff too, thank you all for making our stay so wonderful, I miss you already.

Everything was incredible, from start to finish. Booking on the website was easy and there's so much information there. I appreciated the follow-up emails with important information about lunch and dinner and the limited options. I had fantastic interactions with every employee I encountered. They were all so helpful! 
 It was so nice to be able to use the sauna outside of the hours of 16;00-19:00. THANK YOU for setting it up just for me at 13:00! What a treat.

Disliked · There's virtually nothing I didn't like, but the one thing to potentially improve is to provide more visibility about the winter clothing rental option. Maybe I missed that on the website? It came as a pleasant surprise when the check-in staff member informed us that it was an option when we were trying to figure out how to get to the Turistation. We ended up walking to Abisko Turistation after our taxi ride fell through on the day we needed it and the rented clothes saved the day!

Our stay here was simply magical! We stayed for five nights over Christmas and we loved every minute of it. The staff are exceptional. They are so friendly and helpful and make it feel like you are staying with friends. One staff member even called the tour company for us and moved our tour to another day when we needed to arrange our schedules. 

Second to the staff is the incredible food! We had read reviews that the food is Michelin quality and can totally agree! The Christmas Eve dinner especially was delicious. They are very accommodating to allergies and made everything gluten free for me. The breakfast buffet is also delicious and has many options. 

We loved hanging out in the lobby and bar area during our down time. There is a cozy fire and lots of drink and snack options. 

The room was very clean and tidy. Not very large, but there was always room in the lobby to hang out in between excursions.

The activities and tour groups always pick up from the lobby, which was very convenient. There is no need to rent a car. 

The hotel does not offer lunch. There are snack options available at the bar, as well as a market in Abisko that is walking distance. However, the market did not accept our credit card. So keep that in mind. 

We saw the Northern Lights 3/5  nights that we were there. Highly recommend staying in Abisko if that is your goal! The “Blue Hole” created by the nearby mountains means more likelihood of clear skies, even on a snowy night! 2 nights we left in a snow storm and still managed to see the Aurora.

We highly recommend Abisko Lodge and would happily return!

We had an amazing stay at the Abisko Mountain Lodge! It was super cozy, the staff was exceptionally kind and attentive and created a homey atmosphere. They were also very flexible regarding our vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and created amazing menus for us, so the food was great as well. Especially Samuel, our waiter, was very kind. Would definitely recommend staying here.

What an adventure! We stayed three nights and everything was perfect - rooms, the breakfast, drinks by the fire and the dinners. The ability to hire suitable snow gear was also fantastic. 
Would love to come back in the summer to experience the area again.

The dinner was one of the greatest meals we ever had! Breakfast was also delicious. We did not stay there but will next time! The staff were so friendly and nice. The lobby was so cozy. It was a lovely experience. The sunroot soup was delicious.

Amazing place to stay, rooms are clean and comfortable. Wet room bathroom. Sauna is lovely, mostly empty. Location is very close to the train station and you can book tours that start from here easily. 
Great breakfast, that can be gluten free.
Soup lunch needs to be booked in advance of your stay! 
Dinner is amazing food again easily gluten free.

Great place to stay

The rooms are simple but the location is superb. It's a fantastic location to see the aurora borealis, and there are beautiful hiking (or x/c ski) trails right there and nearby. My wife and I are foodies, and we were quite pleased with the dining here. We also liked the attitude of the staff and were pleased by the array of tourist services they are able to offer. We absolutely loved it and plan to return.

Far and away your best choice for Abisko

I got to Abisko through flight to Stockholm then Kiruna, then took the train to Abisko. I had the time of my life, enjoying the delicious Swedish cuisine at their restaurant, the cozy drinks at the lobby with other guests, and most importantly had so much fun in all the activities! I only spent two days but I snowmobiled, ice climbed, snow walked, and got a guided tour

This is such a special place. Came here for dinner two nights as part of a Northern Lights tour, and the food and service were superb on both occasions. First night I had 'eldost' (Swedish cheese) and the second night Arctic char for main course. Crisp breads for starter and ice cream with cloudberries for dessert. All delicious. The atmosphere is so warm and cosy, and the staff are lovely. Also recommend having a drink or two in the bar lounge next door – they have some interesting local craft beers and cocktails like cloudberry spritz and lingonberry mojito. On both occasions, the Northern Lights were already active and dancing outside by the time we'd finished eating!
