Spent a night here. Lovely views of pine valley and soothing sounds from rushing river and very friendly and accommodating staff. We were given a welcoming coffee and cake at reception very nice. The room -comfortable clean bed but carpets were musty smelling and we were given old towels. The breakfast not bad. So overall 3.5/5 we would say

Impressions

I have been to Swaziland (now Eswatini) a number of times in recent years and really prefer the Ematjeni over the other places that I have stayed. I come for work, and my stays have ranged from 5 nights to several weeks. As others have pointed out - the views are exceptional, and the rooms are beautiful, with every need anticipated. The staff are lovely - they are friendly (although sometimes shy), attentive, and willing to help when you need something.

As someone who tends to work in the evenings and sometimes weekends, I cannot say enough about this place. If you are someone who needs quiet, and /or wants to take inspiration from your surroundings, it's pretty special here. I have been able to get a TON of work done, thanks to the staff rearranging the furniture to set up a large work surface in front of the picture window (!). My experience with the internet is that it is mostly reliable, and just like everywhere else in Eswatini - has moments when the signal drops. However with patience - I always manage to send, receive and use the internet. There are several modems around which helps.

Noting what others are saying about the food - I completely agree about breakfast -- it is fabulous! With dinner,  when you are here for more than a night or two, the staff make other meals on request. The food is simple but delicious. I'm also certain that they can accommodate other meal preferences -- but my advice would be to communicate in advance about it. They take a lot  of care with the food they prepare but do not operate as a restaurant; thus it would not be fair to expect them to throw something together on demand or offer a large menu as you can expect in town.

Will also share this is one of the few places in this part of the world where I feel this safe as a woman walking alone (which I try to do daily). Unless exploring their gardens, I tend to stay on the roads because - well, this is southern Africa and there are snakes in the bush.

This trip it was cold and rainy when I arrived, and I managed to get sick soon after arrival. I snuggled into the heated bed with the view and a book....it really doesn't get more pampered than this (at least not in my line of work!). And btw - they made me soup x2 just when I needed it.

Judging by the reviews, some people might have expectations that can't be met in this type of a guest house. But if you value scenery, comfort, caring staff, and some nice homey touches, this place is awesome.

Love the Ematjeni

Ematjeni is a beautiful lodge in an amazing landscape and the staff starting with Denise was very nice, but our experience has been negatively impacted by the following point related to cost. We had booked a diner for the first evening and we decided to take a main course and a dessert. Our surprise was to learn about the cost of the dessert as it was charged to us 75ZAR which is very high compared to the general prices in the region and the quality of the dessert was not good, so we paid in total about 300ZAR per person for the main course and dessert while a full set diner with starter, main course and dessert in a close-by guesthouse was charged to us 140ZAR fully inclusive of all food and the quality was very nice. So by considering the relatively high cost of this lodge compared to other lodges in the area, we got concerned by this situation which gave us the bad perception that the owner of the lodge was primarily looking to get extra money, so we regret this situation and we will not go back there which is a pity by considering that we are frequent travelers to South Africa and Swaziland (Eswatini).

Beautiful Lodge but our experience negatively affected by a cost point ...

Very nice hotel with a huge suit and wonderful view on the mountains, unfortunately arrived too late to enjoy the pool. Staff is very nice and friendly, helpful. The breakfast is just to please Gargantua! Diner could benefit of a few more choices.

Family stay in July 2019 (with 2 teens 14 & 16 yo)

We stayed here in 2016, and again in 2019, and were/are blown away by the polished and attentive etiquette of the staff from the moment we arrive: like they know how stressful it is to drive in Eswatini, they seat you in the parlor overlooking a most stunning view of the valley and mountains, and offer coffee/tea and a slice of chocolate cake--when you're ready, then you check in. The rooms are perfectly appointed. The breakfast is fantastic. We've stayed at several places in Swaziland at this point, and this one is, by any measure, the best/classiest.

5-star by any measure, not just in Swaziland/Eswatini

We stayed for three nights and found the guesthouse to be fantastic!  Very comfortable beds (with heaters), large room with great views.  The internet wasn't the greatest but that may be because of the country's internet infrastructure.  Everything and everyone else was awesome.

We were greeted on arrival and offered tea or coffee and chocolate cake and made to feel very welcome. The rooms we booked were luxurious and the scenery was breathtaking. The infinity pool was fantastic. The staff were friendly and we would stay again. Great location.

Beautiful location

The view in the breakfast room was absolutely gorgeous. I could not take enough pictures with my camera! Also the swimming pool which seemed to be blending in with the valley was magic... Rooms were decorated in an old English style, they were clean and spacious and we had a private balcony. We were welcomed by a friendly lady with coffee and cake but were a bit surprised that we had already give our orders for breakfast for the next day. I don`t know if I will be super hungry the next day or what my appetite will be. The next morning the order was not followed 100% but it was ok. We also had dinner there, which was fine but it was apparently just a main dish, which tasted great by the way, but no starter or desert or anything. But I had eaten enough. Small issue when we had to check out and the staff was not really aware that we payed in advance so phone call had to be made. Owners of the guest house we did not meet which in a guest house it is mostly the case that they welcome you. Nevertheless, we ate well, slept wel and the view was awesome so I can recommend this place.

We had advised at the time of booking that we would arrive late in the evening, as we were driving here from Kruger Park and crossing a country border in order to reach the accommodation. We arrived at the property just after 8:30pm and were all treated in the most obnoxious manner by the woman who owns the guesthouse. She was incredibly condescending and rude to us, and spoke to us like we were belligerent school children who had broken her 8pm curfew. This was an incredibly unpleasant experience, and such a pity because the views and accommodation at this location are lovely. Definitely a guesthouse to avoid if you would like to be welcomed and treated with a little respect!
