Tealeaf

While visiting Nuwara Eliya, we wanted to stay in the middle of a tea plantation. We found the perfect answer in Tealeaf Retreat. A stunning setting in the plantation, where you can wander for hours and enjoy the serenity and watching the ladies pick the tea leaves. Its vantage point on a hill next to a temple and overlooking the plantation cannot be beat. You will likely want to hire a tuk tuk if going into the town or to see some of the sights (waterfall, Gregory Lake, etc), but this is not a problem, as Tealeaf will be happy to arrange. We loved the location and the fact that we could walk to the tea factory tour and tasting at the Pedro Tea Factory in less than 10 minutes. Ashika at Tealeaf is a wonderful host. He corresponded with us before arrival and was able to obtain our tickets on the scenic train from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy in advance for us. He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and settled us in our comfortable room with a nice view of the tea plantation. One cavaet is that our room, the Jasmine Room, faces the temple, and the temple keeps its lights on all night. Therefore, it never got dark in the room. This was a minor inconvenience. The room has a king size bed and a twin bed, along with a desk and nightstands. The water, coffee, and tea service provided were appreciated. We had a lovely Sri Lankan dinner and a tasty breakfast the next morning. Tealeaf even provided us with lunch before arranging our tuk tuk transport to the train station for our afternoon departure. Staying in the middle of a tea plantation was a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka, made possible by the comfortable, affordable, and friendly accommodations provided by Ashika at Tealeaf. We wish we could have stayed longer, and hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!
