Weligama Beach House

We recently stayed at Sth House for 7 nights, in March '25.

Loved every minute of this peaceful oasis, it is in a lovely neighbourhood & yet only a short tuk- tuk ride into Weligama town.

The pool was fabulous & we swam a few times during the space of a day.
There is a quiet small bay beach an easy 10 minute walk from the house if you prefer ocean swimming.

Anke, Sureka, & Malka were all very welcoming. Our breakfasts prepared & cooked by Malka & Sureka were plentiful, varied, & awesome.

We were sorry to leave South House & will return. Thank you Anke & the girls.

We spent 3 wonderful night at this little piece of paradise. Only 5 minutes walk to beach & cafes via a peaceful laneway.  We loved our room, comfy bed, plenty of space and quite. Breakfast was delicious, we also had delicious dinners there.   Pool is perfect, loved it.

We had a great time at South House. During our stay, Anke and her team took great care of us and made us feel right at home. 

We enjoyed our comfortable and spacious room, which was cleaned every day.  Garden and swimming pool were always beautiful. Malika's cooking was amazing, breakfast was delicious and always plenty of fresh fruits, which we needed after surfing, and she prepared a wonderful birthday dinner for us :) We enjoyed the quiet, yet convenient location and were able to easily access Weligama and Midigama by tuktuk, as well as Jungle Beach by 4 minutes.

Having visited Weligama a few times and staying in different accommodations, South House is the best we've ever experienced. 

A big thanks to Anke and her team, we can't wait to see them again next year.

A gem of a place to stay. Large comfortable bed in large spacious bedroom with AC & Fan. Clean spacious ensuite with hot water shower, fluffy towels and lovely outside area beside the lovely warm swimming pool. We travelled in Sri Lanka for 3 weeks and our best evening meal was had here by far, baked fish with all the trimmings. Breakfast also didn't disappoint. The pool is surrounded by lush stunning tropical garden; we had the most relaxing time here and would have loved to have stayed here longer. Thank you Anka and staff.

Super location, 4 min walk to the beach. The most peaceful place I've been in a long time. The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed and top quality linen. Good A/C and fan. Much attention has been given to detail, to give ultimate comfort, and there is even a USB charging port on the plug point. Beautifully decorated, lovely garden and pool. Glenn, the host, was very friendly and helpful and Malka, who cooks and cleans, is a gem. Very tasty and plentiful breakfast. I would not hesitate to recommend South House and hope to be back soon.

It is a small property but you will be pleasantly surprised with the beauty and charm of this place. Spacious rooms with each and every object and furnitures beautifully designed. It is indeed one of the hidden jems Srilanka offered us at a very reasonable price. Location is also an USP.

The South House is my idea of living the good live.   This place is perfect in every sense of the word.   The owners Fiona and Glenn have ensured that you will love staying at this place.    Located a two minute walk from the beach, you will be surprised with the facilities.   When you walk into the bedroom I was amazed but the design of the room, how beautifully it was presented and how clean it was.   Compared to our previous location, this was pure luxury.    Our hosts were friendly with local information and history of the country.    Both breakfast and dinner was so delicious that I was tempted to take the cook home with us.  If you are travelling down south, I recommend you stay here at least 2 nights minimum.    You will truely love staying at South House - I cant wait to come back the next time we visit Sri Lanka.

Whilst my title seems like an Oxymoron I believe it is the best way to describe this lovely property. I am an introvert like who treasures absolute peace and quiet. Which is exactly what I found at South House ensconced in the middle of a  sleepy village on a quiet road leading to a beach. However if you want to experience the restaurants bars and the action of Weligama its all accessible within minutes. 
The rooms are modern and comfortable and provide star class comfort. Loved the bed linen, especially the comfy pillows and the magical blanket which I was tempted to discreetly stuff into my bag and take back home with me many a time. But I did manage to resist that temptation with difficulty. Another wonderful thing about South House is Jegan. The cook and caretaker of the property. Who I wouldn't mind nicking too if I were to be honest. He is one helluva cook. From big cups of strong milky tea to absolutely delicious curries  and sambols and yummy barbecue Jegan catered to our every whim and fancy with a kind and gentle smile. All in all I found South House an idyllic get away from the city and can't wait till i get back to experience its warmth once more.

Spontaneously some friends and us decided to make the trek to Weligama from Colokbo and we opted to stay here. 

I have no words to describe how lovely it was. From the gorgeous rooms which were done up so simply and elegantly to the food wonderfully prepared by Jegan, it was truly magical. It was comfortable and just close enough to a private beach to go for a swim without being disturbed. 

If you get a chance, visit and you will definitely not regret it.

I have been to south coast of Sri Lanka several times but so far South House Weligama is the most gorgeous and comfortable guest house I have been. I super like the modern rustic bedroom :) Food (from breakfast to dinner) is delicious and nicely prepared by Jedan, in house chef and caretaker of the place. If you're lazy to go to the beach but still wanted to relax, go straight to the lounge area and play board games/puzzles, watch dvds or read books instead. Yes...these are all freely available! The place is kids friendly, also!

Beach is 100m away from the hotel. 
- quietest and most appealing beach hideaways. Surfing spot is not that far. The best place to learn surfing is through AMA Surf School , they offer beginner, intermediate and advance surfing lessons.

Luxury Surprise!!

Thanks to all at South House for a wonderful weekend! The rooms were very comfortable--loved the restful,tranquil ambiance of the rooms and the whole place - in sunshine or in rain!Jegan's meals were great and he went out of his way to pamper 4 ever-hungry kids.The games were a nice touch! We had our own too --so nice to divert kids from screens! Ari was always helpful too.Conveniently central yet peaceful location. 
Only grouse is--must you have bathroom scales?? Inevitably used them --and then felt guilty eating all that food!But greed overcame guilt! Delighted to recommend and Glenn Howard did all he could from the word go to make our visit a super one.

A homey place in South Coast Sri Lanka

We went to South House for a much needed holiday, away from all the hustle and bustle in our day to day life.

The moment we arrived here we all felt relaxed and at home. What took me by surprise was the ambience and the attention to detail in this place. In addition, the friendly staff and the yummy food just topped up my chart. 

Although it is located within a village with an architecture that compliments nature, we were spoilt with a little bit of luxury; such as a/c rooms, beautiful bathrooms etc (which I absolutely loved). It is also just a 5 minute walk to the beautiful beaches. 

My whole family absolutely loved it and will be back for more. Thank you for such wonderful memories.
