Savinrose Safari Hotel - Yala

Made a last minute reservation at Savinrose and stayed here last night.  It is under new management and the owner is updating the rooms, repainting and fixing broken fixtures. Stayed in an a/c room and it was very comfortable; bathroom clean with lots of hot water.  The owner showed me around the rooms; not all have been updated yet, but work is in progress.  Staff are very friendly & accommodating.  Good food; laundry service available.  They booked a safari for me this morning to Yala and prepared a take away breakfast.  This is a great place to stay at a very affordable price.

we stayed at this guesthouse for a day and we can definitely recommend it to everyone. the location is very quiet,just 200m from the lake and a few metres from shops,we had a lovely dinner and we could also book the safari trip to yala directly from the guest house.there is a big variety of rooms,smaller ones,bigger ones,ones with a/c or non a/c.we stayed at the cheapest one (1000rupees per room)and we were very happy with everything.

I stayed here in January 2014 and enjoyed the friendly vibe there are plenty of other young travelers so staying solo was not in the least bit lonely plenty of people to chat to and cold beer.

The food was great I had rice and curry as well as a very delicious chicken mince spaghetti bolognaise very filling.

Saman is the friendly manager at the moment working with his brother Lucky who is the owner & happened to be there.  

The wifi worked well and Saman arranged a Shared jeep for me to Yala which really made the cost worthwhile.

Full marks I would happily recommend this guest house to any travelers visiting Tissa or Yala

Got the place last minute via booking.com (on cheapest price). Arrived late at night to take safari next day in Yala, but he still got up early (at 5am) to provide us lunch and breakfast. Rooms clean and tidy.

After reading reviews on trip advisor I thought this would be a nice place to stay in during my visit to Yala national park. It was a huge disappointment. First of all, it's not close to the main part of the city where the rest of the accommodation places are, the house itself (which I'm sure was once great) is dirty and seems like it hasn't been cleaned for a while. with dust, spider webs and a damp smell from the walls. Door handles and shower heads were broken and generally it seems like the owner just doesn't care any more. 

Also, as a Solo traveller I thought from the reviews I will meet other people there as this was peak season, but I was the only one (not the owners fault, just making a point) 

I do have to say, the owner is very nice and kind, he arranged for me a Safari trip within a few minutes and "upgraded" me to a room with hot water shower for free and breakfast was ok too.
