Negombo

Winston is an identical 3-bedroom guesthouse overlooking the beach. Cars can't access it. You have to walk 100 metres down a narrow sandy alley. The beach is relatively clean (I bathed in the ocean there), with colorful fishing boats and children playing cricket. The room is small and clean with a fan. The bathroom is quite large with shower and hot water. Friendly home by the owner who speaks a little French. He found us a tuk tuk to go to the airport at 4 pm.

The house that looks directly on the beach may seem old-fashioned at first, but the rooms and showrooms are clean and the small terraces are nice.

Very correct room given the price, big sdb but very noisy ventilation. Room booking criteria not respected however. Super nice pool but in the hotel listed. Very slow wifi... bad experience with the manager but very nice employees. By a bad communication between them we were woken up at 5am to pay the note while they knew we were only leaving the next night.... this did not at all shock him The possibility of having a tuk tuk for the airport has 700Rs

The location right on the beach is a plus. Our room was clean, so was the bathroom. There is a thin mattress, which is common in Sri Lanka. The mosquito net had many holes. There is a nice little terrace towards the beach with seating. Unfortunately, the air conditioning didn't work as it should. No matter what the temperature was set, it just blew the air from outside to the inside with the same temperature, without any noticeable cooling. And that was still quite loud. Unfortunately, we couldn't discuss the area with the owner the next morning, because there was only one employee there who barely spoke English. But for that, it's very free.

Okay, but nothing special.

Had a great stay here. For me it's the perfect start to the trip. Staff are friendly and very helpful, it's right on the beach and at the start of the tourist part of town. Place needs a little care and attention but if you can look past that then you will enjoy your stay here.

Great Find

When flying out of Sri Lanka I recommend to stay in Negombo, north of Colombo, as it is close to the airport and a tut tut ride is a comfortable 15 minutes to get there (beats struggling through the traffic from a hotel in Colombo which can take over an hour). Rooms are very basic but comfortable and you have a choice of fan or airconditioning. No fridge or WIFI and hot water was just a notch above cool. Being right on the beach you get a fresh breeze whizzing through the place, sometimes bordering on cyclonic! A short stroll to the main road and you will find a myriad of restaurants and tourist shops to cater for the most picky of tourists. There are even a couple of bottleshops if you want a cold beer on a hot day. Being right on the beach you are witness to spectacular sunsets as you sit on the sand taking in the atmosphere. Then of course you are set upon by beach sellers flogging everything from bottle openers made from a pushbike handlebar to carved coconuts. Breakfast was cooked on the spot and surprisingly delicious with tea/coffee, juices, eggs/toast and a fruit platter. We only saw one staff who was manager(?), receptionist, cleaner and cook. There are lots of places to stay in Negombo which are more up market but this did us for one night.

Step out of reception and you are on the beach

The rooms are pleasant, quite spacious, with warm water, climate and mosquito nets. The price is reasonable and the staff very friendly and organizing. The boss has worked for a long time in France and speaks French. Good breakfast facing the sea. Unfortunately the beach of Negombo is not very clean... but we are in the first lodges for the show of the fishing boats that come home in the morning.

Nice and well-maintained hotel

Last night at this hotel before taking off the plane. The services are in line with other hotels of the same price range that we attended during our stay on the island. The breakfast included in the price was rather generous. The spacious room is air-conditioned and the water is warm. Nothing to say. The beach in front of the hotel (and on the whole coastline elsewhere) is very dirty. The staff is welcoming and arranging (check-out is on but we were able to store our bags and even enjoy a room to take a shower until 3 p.m.).
