We felt as if we were visiting our grandma s house, the place is very clean and near to airport( 30 mins), everything seemed simple and warm.
I would visit again for sure if I went to Sri Lanka.

Previous reviewer said that they felt like they stayed as guests in someone's home. And it's easy to see why. The place is literally the house of the host, and their house is really lovely and homey. The host is very nice, accomodating (despite our late night arrival), and friendly too. Breakfast was served on time, generous, and it's better than what we expected. Most importantly their rooms have all the basic amenities. It's too bad that we only had a very short stay and had to leave early.

This house is 15 minutes walk from Negombo beach, is quiet and the owners are friendly and hospitable. It's a great place to start or end your journey because of its proximity to the Bandaranaike airport. Having breakfast with other guests is nice and allows travel tips to be readily imparted. 

We have just returned from Sri Lanka and came across Ivy Cottage purely by accident.   After spending three weeks in an assortment of budget hotels this was pure class.A wonderful couple whose aim in life was to make our stay such a blessing.  They couldn't have been more helpful i.e. ordering transport and suggesting places to eat. The breakfast was the best we  had in three weeks i.e. hot, fresh and plenty to eat.

Situated between the commercial heart of Negombo Town and the Negombo Beach area, Ivy Cottage is on a gated housing estate. The community has its own swimming pool which guests may use after paying a 150 rupee entrance fee. It is a two minute walk from the property.

The house itself is the new home of an older Sri Lankan couple called Bertie and Ivy who both speak good English and have interesting views on numerous topics. Their home is spotlessly clean and they welcomed me with a fresh pot of tea.

My spacious, peaceful room had a lovely hardwood floor, a comfortable double bed with a writing desk and reading lamp. The bathroom was also modern, clean and spacious with soft towels and a reliable hot water supply.

I ordered a seven thirty breakfast and it was ready bang on time with fresh fruit, fried eggs, another big pot of tea and as much toast as I wanted. Perfect.

I have absolutely no complaints about Ivy Cottage. I was the only guest the night I stayed there. Upon reflection, I recognise that some travellers might not like the very personal sensation of visiting a home that belongs to strangers. Some people will habitually prefer the impersonal nature of most hotels. Bertie was very helpful in ordering two tuk tuk taxis for me. I was charged 800 rupees for the twenty five minute trip to Colombo Airport.
