We enjoyed our stay at Katie’s Hideaway. Room was big and clean with A/C. Friendly and welcoming family. Located a short walk from the beach. They offered a laundry service which was done at a small additional cost.

We really enjoyed our stay at Katie's Hideaway. It's a really peaceful place with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Unfortunately our roommate was a big spider :) but all in all it was okay. Beside the crowded beach Katie's Hideaway is the perfect accommodation to relax. In Dezember the guesthouse didnt't offer food - which I cannot understand. Only one negative point: We booked via booking.com and the boy at the front desk wanted to charge us triple of our booking.com price. After short discussion with the owner everything was fine. If we ever come back to Mirissa we would stay here again.

Nice Hotel

Nice play to stay

We liked the hidden location a step away from the busy beach area. What really made us feel welcome though was the kind family living next door. The lovely lady always asked us how we were doing and showed a lot more interest in us than the hardly englishspeaking staff who spent the days in front of the tv set in the reception area.
We stayed for 5 nights. When you stay for such a long period, I think it is fair to expect the rooms to be cleaned, the towels changed and the garbage taken away at least once, given the frankly too high price we paid. The bathroom was not clean. I can't understand why for example mould is not wiped away from the wall around the toilet paper holder. It would be so easy, and would add so much value to the accomodation. 
We travelled for several weeks in Sri Lanka and stay in many similar places. In comparison, this place was overpriced and did not give enough value for money.

Not enough value for money

I'll preface by saying that Katie's Hideaway hits the mark in terms of what it's aiming for. I think it was too pricey for what you get with so many similar places in the area. No beach front that I saw. It is conveniently located 3 minutes walking from the beach and is nice and quiet. The staff was very friendly, though It would've been nicer if the staff spoke better English. 

There are other nice places on Mirissa beach, where you can still enjoy the waves and the quiet on the western side of the beach. 

All that said, everything worked well enough and it was a decent place to sleep. 

Decidedly average

this place is a bit difficult to judge. on the ome haand, the mother is a very friendly and welcoming person (but doesn‘t speak english well enough to communicate), but the place is really not worth the money! the rooms are standard at the best, no warm water, towels were not clean (to phrase it diplomaticaly, we asked immesiately for new ones) but heavily overpriced. the one son who is managing the place is not very welcoming, but on the other hand, when one asks him for a favor he will do it. breakfast was simply a catastrophy. 
overall, mirissa is in a kind of gold digger state to get as much money as possible from tourists, and that‘s exactely what this place is representing. including taxes, 50 usd for a room without any service, dirty towels, lousy breakfast, no welcome culture.... go ahead and book it.  avoid mirissa, but if you think you need to go there avoid that place to stay. we travelled now for 3 weeks in sri lanka, and i think i got a realistic feeling of what is possible with 50 usd per night.
