Looking for reasonably priced lodgings in Matale I saw A & B Events. Warmly welcomed, we found very comfortable and clean accommodation. One felt immediately "at home", and this was due to Kishor's personal interest and concern. Highly recommended. 

We enjoyed a lovely stay at A&B, it is in a good location within walking distance to the main town. The rooms are spacious and very clean and have everything you need in them, with hot water shower and clean towels. There is a kitchenette you can use to make drinks etc and also the owner allows you to use their washing machine free of charge which is amazing! The owners are so friendly and welcoming and look after you so well, making drinks free of charge. They go above and beyond for their guests to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay. The owner took us on day trips at a fraction of the cost of usual excursions and he is very knowledgable about Sri Lanka and the tourist spots. Thanks for a lovely stay with you 😀

Our expectations were exceeded at every turn. Kishor our fabulous host was outstanding, anticipating our needs and even going out and purchasing an ankle support for one of our group members who had an injury. He openly shared his insights about Sri Lanka and we learned a lot from him. His place became our second home in Sri Lanka and we returned to A & B Events in order to go on a road trip with he and his wonderful family. Highly recommend taking a day tour with Kishor if he is available as he is knowledgeable and takes you to places off the beaten track. His staff is equally attentive and make sure that you have everything you need. 
So grateful our paths crossed with his!

I arrived late, Kishor the owner is so friendly & accommodating. He only had one room left because of New Year bookings and was so apologetic as only a small room.
The room was great though! clean & comfortable bed, views towards the Knuckle Mountains. The building is on a main road but set back, no traffic noise. A large lounge area to relax & open undercover area with tables for dining, lovely views to the mountains, so peaceful. 
Easy walk to the town centre, shopping, Hindu Temple. Plenty of local buses to other sightseeing places. The most memorable thing about my stay is the friendly service & hospitality,  Kishor is an exceptionally nice guy who takes the time to ensure his guests have everything they need. I still need to explore the north, so next trip....guess where I will be staying!

After a long day traveling back from Ella by train, we decided to stay in Matale for the night before continuing North in the morning.

But after meeting our host and hearing about Matale we decided that we had to stay an extra night and take him up on his offer of a tour of the Knuckle Mountains.

Our room was very spacious and clean with great air conditioning.  Outside was a large open-air communal area with a dining table and comfortable seating.

It was late when we arrived and we needed dinner.  By the time we unpacked our host had arranged a meal for us.  It was huge and delicious and we were relieved not to have to return to town to eat.

In the morning he greeted us with a huge spread for breakfast.  So much food that we couldn't possibly finish it and enough to keep us going until afternoon tea time.

He took us on a tour through the mountains stopping to walk to a waterfall, up to a fabulous lookout and then a walk to Mini World's End, a spectacular cliff edge with incredible views across the region.  He walked with us giving us an insight into life in Sri Lanka and the tracks we were walking on.

He also took us to a tea factory where we had a private tour of a genuine tea factory.  Not a show model like you typically usually see in places like Ella.

We also stopped at a roadside eatery where we enjoyed pol roti with honey and tea.  Lastly, he took us back to his home to meet his Mum who cooks the fabulous food that we ate, and his wife and children.

They also invited us to a festival at their temple that night too.  But we were too tired to accept their generous offer.  So he delivered us cold beers to have after our meal instead. Fantastic service!

The next day his wife and littlest child accompanied us on a tour to a local batik factory and cave temple complex before they delivered to the bus station.  They also stopped the bus and made sure we got on it before it whisked us away to Dambulla.

Meals were just $3 USD per person and awsome value!

When we arrived we realised it wouldn't be a quiet place to stay as it is on a main road, but actually we both had the best night's sleep for a while. We thought our stay in Matale was merely going to be a stopover on our way to Trincomalee but it turned out to be an exciting time. We had a walk around the town in the evening and didn't see another tourist, wonderful! In the morning we had a fabulous breakfast. Then Kishor, the owner, took us out to see the sights. He was so generous with his time, he really cares for his guests. We had a wonderful six hours visiting 2 batik workshops, a Hindu temple, a Buddhist rock temple and a spice garden. He then insisted on driving us all the way to Trincomalee (150 km) for a more than reasonable price showing us interesting stuff on the way.

Kandy can be quite expensive, so we booked this place in nearby (and non-touristy) Matale for a fraction of the prices further South. It's a short walk or tuk tuk from the main bus stop. It's a wedding/reception venue with a few modest rooms and a lovely deck for meals. Our room was excellent for the price, though we chose to 'upgrade' to get the aircon remote for another USD $5. Although we hadn't organised in advance, they were able to serve us dinner for a small fee too. There's no toilet paper holder and the bathroom gets wet with a shower (dries soon enough), so we just popped the toilet roll in a clean plastic bag so we could keep it in the bathroom on the floor. A great place to sleep for the night while traveling through the area. The owner was very thoughtful, we had left some yoghurt in his fridge and forgot to get it on checkout, and he called us later to apologize! Would stay here again.
