Richmond Villa

What a beautiful little place to stay while in Kandy. It is located on the mountain which gives you a beautiful view of the city. The rooms are spacious and well looked after with everything you need. The food was really tasty and the staff are also very caring and do their very best to accompany any wish. Would def recommend it.

Lovely host. Made us a cup of tea on arrival, and again in the morning. Could not be more helpful. The wifi was not working when we were there, the manager had arrived in preparation for the holiday season. He was dealing with IT techs to have this fixed.  It is very good budget accommodation. The rooms were large and clean with a view across the hills in a quiet part of Kandy. There was plenty of hot water. Breakfast and dinner are optional extras. They provide driver accommodation as well, and our driver was very happy.

The owner is an amazing host. The view is amazing at night as it is located at a height. It is not too far from the city and convenient if you have your own vehicle to go around. 

10 minutes away from the Sacred Temple in Kandy. Everything was perfect only the flow of water was extremely low may be due to the height the property is located.

Home away from home

Clean, good value for money, not great if you don't have a driver as it is a fair hike up a steep hill from town.

Great location

On a positive note the two staff who couldn't have tried harder, were incredibly hospitable, encouraging us to 'make the villa our home'. They also cooked a tasty meal but ended up charging well over usual price for fried rice. Wifi was good throughout the hotel.

On the downside, the location made it difficult to get to and from, and  dangerous, due to us taking a wrong turn, as we couldn't easily turn around.

Our bathroom was unrenovated (compared to our friends) and was not that clean and water pressure was an issue. Dirty carpet mats should be replaced with bathmats. Bath towels were not replaced.

Some would say GI - geographically impossible

This was once an elegant place, and while it still has good bones it needs a rehab.

Of the five wall and ceiling lights in my room only one worked.  The plug-points needed fiddling with.  There were plenty mosquitos and no net so I was forced to use a fan on high to keep them at bay.

On a better note,  the AC worked well enough and breakfast was adequate with lots of good local coffee 

The lounge furniture was not only cheap but dirty and certainly discouraged anyone sitting on it.

There are better options.
